How to change glow plugs [AUTODOC TUTORIAL]


a set of suitable tools
a set of new glow plugs
torque wrench
a glow plug socket
high temperature grease
all-purpose cleaning spray
WD-40 spray
Please note!
- Glow plugs are heating elements used to aid in starting a diesel engine
- Their number corresponds to the number of engine cylinders
- The glow plugs all have the same service life and should be replaced as a set
- Glow plugs are located in the cylinder head
- Depending on the vehicle design, they can be fitted at the front, rear or on top of the engine
- 1.
Before getting down to work, make sure that the engine has cooled down - 2.
Open the bonnet and remove the engine cover - 3.
Locate the glow plugs - 4.
Look at the design of the glow plugs and their electrical contactsImportant!Before getting down to work, check that no power is being supplied to the glow plugsMake sure the ignition is offIn some cases you may need to disconnect the negative battery terminal - 5.
Remove the common power supply terminal, if your car has one - 6.
Or detach the connectors from all glow plugs - 7.
Clean the working area - 8.
To unscrew the glow plugs, use a torque wrench with a suitable socket - 9.
Set the wrench to the torque value recommended by the car manufacturer. This value may be specified on the package or in the car repair manualCaution!To avoid breaking the glow plug, do not exceed the prescribed torque - 10.
Before removing the glow plugs, clean the working area again - 11.
If the glow plugs are difficult to access, use a magnetic pickup tool with a flexible shaft - 12.
If the preset torque is insufficient to unscrew the glow plugs, you can try the following: Remove the parts after warming up the engine to the operating temperatureImportant!Proceed with caution to prevent burns
