How to change mass air flow sensor on a car – replacement tutorial

You will need:

a set of ring spanners

flat and Phillips screwdrivers

Buy tools

Signs of a bad MAF sensor:

the check engine light is on
increased fuel consumption
reduced engine power
hesitation or jerking during acceleration
rough idling
starting the engine is difficult or impossible

1.

Switch off the ignition and disconnect the battery's negative terminal.
2.

Detach the sensor's connector.
3.

When demounting the mass air flow sensor, you should remove neighbouring components such as the hose clamp or air filter.
4.

Demount the MAF sensor.
5.

Install a new sensor and reinstall all the parts that were removed in reverse order.
6.

Connect a diagnostic scanner and clear any errors.
7.

Start the engine and check if the sensor is working properly.
8.

Clear any trouble codes from the ECU memory.

Important!
Failure to change the engine air filter in time can lead to rapid contamination of the MAF sensor and affect its readings.
