How to change spark plug on TOYOTA AYGO 1 (AB10) [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]

Replacement: spark plugs – Toyota Aygo AB1. List of the tools you'll need:

                      WD-40 spray
                    
                      Electronic spray
                    
                      High-temperature anti-seize lubricant
                    
                      Drive socket # 10 
                    
                      Spark plug socket # 16
                    
                      Ratchet wrench
                    
                      Torque wrench
                    
                      Telescoping magnet 
                    
                      Hose clamp pliers with retainer
                    
                      Flat screwdriver
                    
                      Microfibre towel
                    
                      Fender cover

Replacement: spark plugs – Toyota Aygo AB1. AUTODOC recommends:

The replacement procedure is the same for all spark plugs.
Warning! Shut down the engine before starting any work – Toyota Aygo AB1.

Carry out replacement in the following order:

Step 1

Open the hood.
Step 2

Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.
Step 3

Remove the fastening clamps of the air filter breather pipe and the air filter inlet pipe. Use hose clamp pliers with retainer.
Step 4

Release the air filter cover clips.
Step 5

Take off the filter lid.
Step 6

Disconnect the air intake pipe from the air filter housing.
Step 7

Cover the throttle body with a microfibre towel to prevent dust and dirt from getting into the system.
Step 8

Unplug the connectors from the ignition coils.
Step 9

Treat the fastening bolts of the ignition coils. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 10

Unscrew the ignition coil bracket. Use a drive socket #10.
Step 11

Take out the ignition coil from the spark plug well.

Replacement: spark plugs – Toyota Aygo AB1. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
Remember the sequence of steps for ignition coil demounting.
Step 12

Clean dirt, dust and debris from inside the spark plug wells.
Step 13

Unscrew the spark plugs. Use the spark plug socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 14

Take out the spark plugs. Use a telescoping magnet.
Step 15

Apply a thin layer of a special high temperature anti-seize lubricant to the threads of the new spark plugs. Treat the surface of the terminals of the new spark plugs. Use high-temperature grease.
Step 16

Install the new spark plugs into their mounting seats.
Step 17

Screw new spark plugs and tighten them. Use the spark plug socket #16. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 25 nm torque.

Replacement: spark plugs – Toyota Aygo AB1. Professionals recommend:
Don't tighten the plugs with excessive force. Exceeding tightening torque can damage the thread connection. Be careful when working with a spark plug wrench. Its skewing can cause damage to the threaded connection.
Step 18

Install the ignition coils to the spark plug wells. Make sure you hear a click indicating that it is locked in place.

AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: spark plugs – Toyota Aygo AB1. Follow the installation steps.
Step 19

Tighten the fasteners of the ignition coils. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 20

Treat the ignition coil connector with electronic spray. The spray will protect the electrical contacts from corrosion, oxidation, and will reduce the contact resistance.
Step 21

Plug in the connectors of the ignition coils. Make sure you hear a click indicating that it is locked in place.
Step 22

Remove the microfibre towel from the throttle body.
Step 23

Reinstall the air filter cover. Fasten it.
Step 24

Connect the air intake pipe to the air filter housing.
Step 25

Press the air filter cover clips into place.
Step 26

Install the fastening clamps of the air filter breather pipe and the air filter inlet pipe. Use hose clamp pliers with retainer.
Step 27

Run the engine for a few minutes. This is necessary in order to make sure that the component operates properly.
Step 28

Shut off the engine.
Step 29

Remove the fender protection cover.
Step 30

Close the hood.
