How to change spark plug on TOYOTA RAV4 II [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]
All the parts you need to replace – Spark Plug for RAV 4 II (CLA2_, XA2_, ZCA2_, ACA2_) and other TOYOTA models
Replacement: spark plugs – Toyota RAV4 II. Professionals recommend:
The replacement procedure is the same for all spark plugs.
All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: spark plugs – Toyota RAV4 II. Recommended sequence of steps:
Step 1
Open the bonnet.
Step 2
Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.
Step 3
Loosen the fastening clamp connecting the air duct to the air filter housing. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 4
Disconnect the air intake pipe from the air filter housing.
Step 5
Unscrew the fasteners of the air filter housing. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 6
Loosen the fastening clamp connecting the air duct to the air filter housing. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 7
Disconnect the air intake pipe from the air filter housing.
Step 8
Cover the air intake hose with a microfibre towel to prevent dust and dirt from getting into the system.
Step 9
Move the air filter housing aside.
Step 10
Unscrew the fasteners of the air filter housing bracket. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 11
Remove the fastening bolts.
Step 12
Remove the air filter housing bracket.
Step 13
Clean the ignition coils.
Step 14
Unplug the connectors from the ignition coils.
Step 15
Unscrew the fasteners of the ignition coils. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 16
Remove the fastening bolts.
Step 17
Take out the ignition coils from the spark plug wells.
Replacement: spark plugs – Toyota RAV4 II. Tip:
Remember the sequence of steps for ignition coil demounting.
Step 18
Clean dirt, dust and debris from inside the spark plug wells.
Step 19
Unscrew the spark plugs. Use the spark plug socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 20
Take out the spark plugs.
Step 21
Apply a thin layer of a special high temperature anti-seize lubricant to the threads of the new spark plugs.
Step 22
Install the new spark plugs into their mounting seats.
Step 23
Screw new spark plugs and tighten them. Use the spark plug socket #16. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 19 nm torque.
Replacement: spark plugs – Toyota RAV4 II. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
Don't tighten the plugs with excessive force. Exceeding tightening torque can damage the thread connection. Be careful when working with a spark plug wrench. Its skewing can cause damage to the threaded connection.Lower the spark plugs into the wells carefully, making sure not to damage the electrode gap.
Step 24
Install the ignition coils to the spark plug wells.
Step 25
Install the fastening bolts.
Step 26
Tighten the ignition coil fasteners. Use a drive socket #10. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 9 Nm torque.
Step 27
Treat the ignition coil connector with electronic spray. The spray will protect the electrical contacts from corrosion, oxidation, and will reduce the contact resistance.
Step 28
Plug in the connectors of the ignition coils.
Step 29
Install the air filter housing bracket.
Step 30
Install the fastening bolts.
Step 31
Tighten the fasteners of the air filter housing bracket. Use a drive socket #10. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 9 Nm torque.
Step 32
Install the air filter housing.
Step 33
Remove the microfibre towel from the air intake hose.
Step 34
Connect the air intake pipe to the air filter housing.
Step 35
Screw the fastening clamp connecting the air duct to the air filter housing. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 36
Screw in the fasteners of the air filter housing. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 37
Connect the air intake pipe to the air filter housing.
Step 38
Screw the fastening clamp connecting the air duct to the air filter housing. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 39
Run the engine for a few minutes. This is necessary in order to make sure that the component operates properly.
Step 40
Shut off the engine.
Step 41
Remove the fender protection cover.
Step 42
Close the hood.
