DIY Toyota Corolla repair and maintenance

Engine

  • The cylinder-piston group in engines produced before 2006 tends to wear out prematurely. Don’t forget to check the level and condition of the motor oil every time you carry out  Toyota Corolla repair and maintenance by yourself. Increased motor oil consumption can indicate the presence of defects. You can change the oil yourself after watching our video guide.
  • The cooling system can malfunction. Usually, coolant leakage from the radiator or pipes causes the defect. To avoid overheating, you need to check the coolant level in the coolant tank before every trip and refill it if necessary. You can do this yourself. Use only the antifreeze recommended by the car manufacturer.
  • The starter doesn’t have a long lifespan. If it shuts off too soon or doesn’t work at all, check the terminal connections in your garage. If the connections are correct, you need to bring your car to a mechanic for starter diagnostics and replace the part if necessary. Study our step-by-step video tutorial on Toyota Corolla repair to see how to install a new starter properly.
  • The fuel pump is prone to breaking down. If this happens you’ll notice engine power loss and strange noises during its operation. It’s better to have a professional carry out the replacement. In order to increase its working lifespan we recommend only filling your car with high-quality fuel. Regularly replace the fuel filter to clean the fuel supplied to the engine. For this you can download our step-by-step instructions on Toyota Corolla repair and maintenance.

Transmission

  • The torque converter wears down early on 4 and 431 automatic transmissions. If jerking and noise appear during operation of the unit you need to take the car to a mechanic for repair. At the same time, don’t forget to monitor the level of transmission fluid and replace it in due time. You can do this easily using our illustrated manual on Toyota Corolla repair provided in PDF format.
  • The ECU often malfunctions in models with automatic transmission. This may cause the vehicle to skid. Take the car to the garage to have the unit diagnosed to see if it’s necessary to replace separate elements or the whole unit.
  • The oil pump can break down in cars with automatic transmission. Consumption of transmission fluid increases significantly. Visit a garage if this happens.
