How to change spark plug on TOYOTA YARIS Mk2 [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]
All the parts you need to replace – Spark Plug for Yaris Hatchback (_P9_) and other TOYOTA models
Replacement: spark plugs – Toyota Yaris Mk2. Tip from AUTODOC:
The replacement procedure is the same for all spark plugs.
Please note: all work on the car – Toyota Yaris Mk2 – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
Step 1
Open the bonnet.
Step 2
Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.
Step 3
Release the air filter cover clips.
Step 4
Disconnect the air intake pipe from the air filter housing.
Step 5
Take off the filter lid.
Step 6
Cover the air intake hose with a microfibre towel to prevent dust and dirt from getting into the system.
Step 7
Clean the ignition coils.
Step 8
Unscrew the fasteners of the wiring harness bracket. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 9
Remove the fastening bolts.
Step 10
Remove the oil dipstick.
Step 11
Move the wiring harness bracket aside.
Step 12
Insert the oil dipstick.
Step 13
Unplug the connectors from the ignition coils.
Step 14
Unscrew the fasteners of the ignition coils. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 15
Remove the fastening bolts.
Step 16
Take out the ignition coils from the spark plug wells.

Remember the sequence of steps for ignition coil demounting.
Step 17
Clean dirt, dust and debris from inside the spark plug wells.
Step 18
Unscrew the spark plugs. Use the spark plug socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 19
Take out the spark plugs.
Step 20
Apply a thin layer of a special high temperature anti-seize lubricant to the threads of the new spark plugs.
Step 21
Install the new spark plugs into their mounting seats.
Replacement: spark plugs – Toyota Yaris Mk2. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
Lower the spark plugs into the wells carefully, making sure not to damage the electrode gap.
Step 22
Screw new spark plugs and tighten them. Use the spark plug socket #16. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 18 nm torque.
Replacement: spark plugs – Toyota Yaris Mk2. Tip from AUTODOC:
Don't tighten the plugs with excessive force. Exceeding tightening torque can damage the thread connection. Be careful when working with a spark plug wrench. Its skewing can cause damage to the threaded connection.
Step 23
Install the ignition coils to the spark plug wells.
Step 24
Install the fastening bolts.
Step 25
Tighten the ignition coil fasteners. Use a drive socket #10. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 9 Nm torque.
Step 26
Treat the ignition coil connector with electronic spray. The spray will protect the electrical contacts from corrosion, oxidation, and will reduce the contact resistance.
Step 27
Plug in the connectors of the ignition coils.
Step 28
Remove the oil dipstick.
Step 29
Reinstall the wiring harness bracket.
Step 30
Insert the oil dipstick.
Step 31
Install the fastening bolts.
Step 32
Tighten the fasteners of the wiring harness bracket. Use a drive socket #10. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 9 Nm torque.
Step 33
Clean the air filter cover and housing.
Step 34
Remove the microfibre towel from the air intake hose.
Step 35
Connect the air intake pipe to the air filter housing.
Step 36
Reinstall the air filter cover. Fasten it.
Step 37
Press the air filter cover clips into place.
Step 38
Run the engine for a few minutes. This is necessary in order to make sure that the component operates properly.
Step 39
Shut off the engine.
Step 40
Remove the fender protection cover.
Step 41
Close the hood.
