DIY Toyota Yaris repair and maintenance

Engine

  • A bad throttle valve leads to increased fuel consumption and engine power loss. If you have the necessary experience and equipment you can replace the damaged part yourself following our Toyota Yaris repair and maintenance guide step by step. Regularly cleaning the component and use of high-quality fuel can prevent this malfunction.
  • The V-ribbed belt wears out fast. When it does, you’ll notice whistling and vibration on acceleration. You’ll be able to install a new part on your own thanks to our video guide. It can be downloaded for free.

Transmission

  • The ECU (electronic control unit) tends to break down in models with a manual transmission. The problem can be detected by jerking when shifting gears and a sharp increase of engine rpm. The ECU is not repairable: it has to be replaced at a garage.
  • The seals of the drive shafts are not wear resistant. New seals should be installed by a mechanic, but you can replace the transmission oil yourself in your garage with the help of our step-by-step video tutorial on Toyota Yaris repair.
  • The clutch release bearing and clutch fork wear out early. If you cannot change gears, you need to visit a garage and have new parts installed.

Cabin

  • Sound-proofing is the Yaris’ weak spot. Road noise is clearly heard in the cabin of cars with a manual transmission when driving at high speeds. You can partially remedy this defect by using sound-proofing materials. They can be applied under the door panels. Use our illustrated PDF manual on Toyota Yaris repair to make the job easier.
  • Plastics used for interior trimming lose their attractive appearance fast. The steering wheel cover is not very long-lasting either. Try not to scuff or damage these elements while performing DIY Toyota Yaris repair and maintenance. Use only high-quality car care products for interior cleaning.

Lighting system

  • The headlight casings are prone to leaking and sweating. If this is caused by cracks you need to replace the parts. You can do this yourself easily thanks to our recommendations.
  • Scratches can appear on the headlights. This worsens visibility when the low beam is on. Minor defects can be removed by polishing. If the scratches are deep, it would be better to replace the components.
