How to change front suspension arm on TOYOTA YARIS XP10 TUTORIAL | AUTODOC
All the parts you need to replace – Control Arm for Yaris Hatchback (_P1_) and other TOYOTA models
Replacement: front lower arm – Toyota Yaris P1. AUTODOC recommends:
The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right lower control arms.
All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: front lower arm – Toyota Yaris P1. Recommended sequence of steps:
Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #21.
Step 3
Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Toyota Yaris P1
Step 5
Remove the wheel.
Step 6
Clean the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 7
Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #19.
Step 8
Disconnect the ball joint from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller.
Step 9
Clean the stabiliser link fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 10
Unscrew the fastener connecting the stabilizer bar with the control arm. Use a combination spanner #13. Use a combination spanner #10.
Step 11
Clean all joints of the arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 12
Unscrew the front arm fastener. Use a drive socket #17. Use a tap wrench. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 13
Support the engine in the oil pan area. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Replacement: front lower arm – Toyota Yaris P1. Professionals recommend:
Make sure that the engine is supported.
Step 14
Unscrew the rear fastener connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use a combination spanner #17. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 15
Remove the arm.
Step 16
Clean the mounting seats and the thread of the suspension arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 17
Install a new arm.
Replacement: front lower arm – Toyota Yaris P1. AUTODOC experts recommend:
During the installation process, use only new bolts and nuts.Do not damage the ball joint cover.
Step 18
Screw the rear fastener connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use a combination spanner #17. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench. Use a tap wrench.
Step 19
Screw the front arm fastener. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench. Use a tap wrench.
Step 20
Remove the support from under the engine.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: front lower arm – Toyota Yaris P1. Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms.
Step 21
Connect the ball joint to the steering knuckle.
Step 22
Tighten the ball joint fastener. Use a combination spanner #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 98 nm torque.
Step 23
Prop up the steering knuckle. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 24
Tighten the fastener connecting the stabilizer bar with the control arm. Use a combination spanner #13. Use a combination spanner #10. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 18 Nm torque.
Step 25
Tighten the front fastener connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use a drive socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 88 Nm torque.
Step 26
Tighten the rear fastener connecting the arm to the body subframe. Use a drive socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 132 Nm torque.
Step 27
Remove the support from under the steering knuckle.
Replacement: front lower arm – Toyota Yaris P1. Tip:
Lower the hydraulic transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging assemblies and mechanisms.
Step 28
Treat all joints of the arm. Use copper grease.
Step 29
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 30
Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: front lower arm – Toyota Yaris P1. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 31
Install the wheel.
Replacement: front lower arm – Toyota Yaris P1. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 32
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #21.
Step 33
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #21. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 103 Nm torque.
Step 34
Remove the jacks and chocks.
