How to change strut mount TOYOTA YARIS XP10 TUTORIAL | AUTODOC
All the parts you need to replace – Strut Mount for Yaris Hatchback (_P1_) and other TOYOTA models
Replacement: strut mount – Toyota Yaris P1. AUTODOC recommends:
All mounts of the front shock struts should be replaced simultaneously.
The replacement procedure is identical for the mounts of the left and right shock struts of the front suspension.
Be sure to replace all self-locking nuts and bolts during installation.
Please note: all work on the car – Toyota Yaris P1 – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #21.
Step 3
Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
Replacement: strut mount – Toyota Yaris P1. Tip:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
Step 5
Remove the wheel.
Step 6
Clean the fastener of the bracket that connects the brake hose to the shock strut. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 7
Unscrew the brake hose fastening bracket from the shock strut. Use a drive socket #14. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 8
Remove the bracket from the shock absorber strut.
Step 9
Clean the fasteners connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 10
Unscrew the lower fastener connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #19. Use a drive socket #19. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 11
Remove the fastening bolts. Disconnect the steering knuckle from the shock absorber strut.
Step 12
Lower the car. Open the bonnet.
Step 13
Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.
Step 14
Clean the fasteners of the shock strut upper mount. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 15
Unscrew the top fastening of the shock strut mount. Use a combination spanner #12.
Replacement: strut mount – Toyota Yaris P1. AUTODOC recommends:
To avoid injuries, hold the shock strut when undoing the fastening bolts.
Step 16
Remove the suspension strut.
Step 17
Set the shock absorber strut on the spring compressor tool.
Replacement: strut mount – Toyota Yaris P1. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
Note that when using a spring compressor, spring coils need to be securely gripped, compressing the spring on the opposite sides.Ensure the correct position of the spring in the retainer.Make sure that the spring coils tightly entered the lock handles.
Step 18
Compress the spring.
Step 19
Remove the protective cap from the shock absorber strut mount. Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 20
Treat the shock strut rod. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 21
Remove the strut piston rod nut. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 22
Remove the top strut mount. Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 23
Clean the mounting seat of the shock strut mount. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Replacement: strut mount – Toyota Yaris P1. Professionals recommend:
Examine the shock absorber dust cap and the bump stop. Replace them if necessary.
Step 24
Install a new strut mount.
Step 25
Tighten the shock strut piston rod nut. Use a drive socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 33 Nm torque.
Replacement: strut mount – Toyota Yaris P1. AUTODOC experts recommend:
Check to make sure the spring is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment.
Step 26
Treat the shock strut rod. Use copper grease.
Step 27
Install the protective cap onto the shock absorber strut mount.
Step 28
Decompress the spring.
Step 29
Remove the assembled shock strut.
Step 30
Clean the mounting seats of the shock strut. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 31
Install the shock strut into the wheel arch.
Step 32
Screw the top fastening of the shock strut mount.
AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Hold the suspension strut while screwing in the fastening bolts. Toyota Yaris P1
Step 33
Tighten the upper fastener of the shock absorber strut mount. Use a combination spanner #12. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 35 Nm torque.
Step 34
Treat the fasteners of the shock strut mount. Use copper grease.
Step 35
Remove the fender protection cover. Close the hood.
Step 36
Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
Step 37
Fix the shock absorber strut on the steering knuckle.
Step 38
Install the fastening bolts.
Step 39
Tighten the lower fasteners connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #19. Use a drive socket #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 132 Nm torque.
Step 40
Treat the shock strut fasteners. Use copper grease.
Step 41
Install the bracket onto the shock absorber strut.
Step 42
Tighten the brake hose fastening bracket to the shock strut. Use a drive socket #14. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 43
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 44
Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.
Replacement: strut mount – Toyota Yaris P1. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 45
Install the wheel.
AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts on the car. Toyota Yaris P1
Step 46
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #21.
Step 47
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #21. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 103 Nm torque.
Step 48
Remove the jacks and chocks.
