How to change rear suspension arm / rear control arm on TOYOTA RAV 4 3 (XA30) [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]

All the parts you need to replace – Control Arm for RAV 4 III (ACA3_, ACE_, ALA3_, GSA3_, ZSA3_) and other TOYOTA models

AUTODOC recommends:
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right lower control arms.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: rear suspension lower control arm – Toyota RAV4 III. Use the following procedure:
- Step 1Secure the wheels with chocks.Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #21. - Step 3
Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports. - Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.Replacement: rear suspension lower control arm – Toyota RAV4 III. Tip:To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts. - Step 5
Remove the wheel. - Step 6
Clean all joints of the arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 7
Unscrew the arm fastening to the beam. Use a combination spanner #17 (2 pieces). - Step 8
Remove the fastening bolt. Use a crowbar. - Step 9
Support the stub axle. Use a hydraulic transmission jack. - Step 10
Clean the shock absorber fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 11
Unscrew the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #17. Use a combination spanner #17. - Step 12
Remove the fastening bolt. - Step 13
Detach the lower part of the shock absorber. - Step 14
Clean all joints of the arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 15
Unscrew the fastener connecting the control arm to the rear knuckle. Use a combination spanner #17. - Step 16
Remove the fastening nut. - Step 17
Remove the arm. Use a ball joint puller.Replacement: rear suspension lower control arm – Toyota RAV4 III. AUTODOC experts recommend:Adjust the length of the free portion of the thread on the new suspension arm. The length should be the same as on the old suspension arm. This will prevent wheel misalignment. - Step 18
Tighten the lock nut of the suspension arm. Use a combination spanner #27. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 55 nm torque. - Step 19
Clean the mounting seats and the thread of the suspension arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 20
Install a new arm.Replacement: rear suspension lower control arm – Toyota RAV4 III. Tip from AUTODOC:During the installation process, use only new bolts and nuts.Do not damage the ball joint cover.
