Replacement: coil springs – PEUGEOT 406 Break (8E/F). AUTODOC recommends:
- Both coil springs of the rear suspension should be replaced simultaneously.
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right coil springs of the rear suspension.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: coil springs – PEUGEOT 406 Break (8E/F). Recommended sequence of steps:
- Step 1Secure the wheels with chocks.
- Step 2Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
- Step 3Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.Step 4Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. PEUGEOT 406 Break (8E/F)
- Step 5Remove the wheel.
- Step 6Support the rear control arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
- Step 7Clean the shock absorber fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 8Unscrew the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 9Remove the fastening bolt.
- Step 10Clean the fastener connecting the rear knuckle to the suspension control arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Step 11Unscrew the fastener connecting the control arm to the rear knuckle. Use a combination spanner #21. Use a drive socket #21. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 12Remove the fastening bolt. Use a pin punch. Use a hammer.Step 13Disconnect the ABS sensor wiring. Use a crowbar.
- Step 14Remove the support from under the rear control arm.AUTODOC recommends:PEUGEOT 406 Break (8E/F) – Do not lower the transmission jack sharply to avoid damaging components and mechanisms of the car.
- Step 15Take out the spring.
- Step 16Remove the rubber spring spacer.Replacement: coil springs – PEUGEOT 406 Break (8E/F). Tip:Inspect the rubber mounts of the suspension spring. Replace if necessary.Step 17Install the rubber spring spacer.
- Step 18Install the coil spring together with the rubber mounts into the mounting seats.
- Step 19Support the rear control arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
