DIY repair and maintenance of your Peugeot 206

Engine

  • The idle air control valve tends to break down fast. One of the signs it’s defective is unstable engine rotation speed in neutral. You can replace the part by yourself.
  • Ignition coils have a short lifespan. Inspect them every time you replace spark plugs. If you notice excessive vibration of the engine and malfunctions in ignition system operation, you need to install new ignition coils. Our illustrated PDF manual on Peugeot 206 repair will help you.
  • The upper right mount on a petrol engine wears out fast. When this happens, vibration is noticeable when the engine is running, and knocking is heard from under the bonnet on acceleration and braking. Rattling is also heard from the front of the car when driving on rough roads. All of this indicates that a new mount needs to be installed.

Transmission

  • Shaft seals of a manual transmission can lose their leak-tightness. Oil leakage means shifting gears requires more effort. The seals require immediate replacement at a garage. Replacing the transmission fluid is something you can do yourself, once you’ve downloaded and studied our step-by-step video tutorial on Peugeot 206 repair.
  • Valves of an automatic transmission work incorrectly if there is leakage of fluid through worn-out seals. This automatic transmission has no oil dipstick for checking the transmission fluid level. A defect in the unit can only be detected during scheduled servicing.

Suspension

  • Stabilizer links often break down prematurely. The defect can easily be detected by vehicle roll when turning and braking sharply. Swerving is also observed. You can install new parts in your garage. With our video guide you’ll be able to carry out DIY Peugeot 206 repair and maintenance without any problems.
  • Integral ball joints of the front suspension arms wear out fast. In order to correct the defect you need to replace the arms. You can do this in your garage with the help of our step-by-step instructions on Peugeot 206 repair and maintenance. When you’ve finished, you need to check the wheel alignment angles and adjust if necessary. In order to extend the working lifespan of the ball joints, experts recommend monitoring the condition of the dust boots and replacing them immediately in case of damage.
