Replacement: shock absorbers – PEUGEOT 406 Break (8E/F). AUTODOC experts recommend:
- Both shock absorbers of the rear suspension should be replaced simultaneously.
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right shock absorbers of the rear suspension.
- Please note: all work on the car – PEUGEOT 406 Break (8E/F) – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Secure the wheels with chocks.
- Step 2Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
- Step 3Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.
- Step 4Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. PEUGEOT 406 Break (8E/F)
- Step 5Remove the wheel.
- Step 6Support the rear control arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
- Step 7Clean the shock absorber fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 8Unscrew the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 9Remove the fastening bolt.
- Step 10Remove the support from under the rear control arm.AUTODOC recommends:Replacement: shock absorbers – PEUGEOT 406 Break (8E/F). Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms.
- Step 11Lower the car.Step 12Open the luggage compartment.Step 13Remove the clips of the boot side lining. Use a clip removal tool.
- Step 14Detach the boot side lining.
- Step 15Clean the upper fastener of the shock absorber. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Step 16Unscrew the upper fastener of the shock absorber. Use a combination spanner #17. Use an adjustable wrench.AUTODOC recommends:PEUGEOT 406 Break (8E/F) – To avoid injury, hold the shock absorber while unscrewing the fastening bolts.
- Step 17Remove the shock absorber.
- Step 18Remove the shock absorber upper mount.
- Step 19Remove the shock absorber dust cap and the bump stop.AUTODOC recommends:Replacement: shock absorbers – PEUGEOT 406 Break (8E/F). Carefully inspect the mount, the boot, and the bump stop of the shock absorber. Replace if necessary.
- Step 20Install the dust boot and the bump stop on the new shock absorber.Replacement: shock absorbers – PEUGEOT 406 Break (8E/F). AUTODOC experts recommend:Before installing a new shock absorber you should pump it manually 3-5 times.
- Step 21Install the top mount on the new shock absorber and fasten it.
- Step 22Clean the shock absorber mounting seats. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Step 23Place the shock absorber in the wheel arch and fasten it.AUTODOC recommends:PEUGEOT 406 Break (8E/F) – To avoid injury, hold the shock absorber while screwing in the fastening bolts.
