AUTODOC recommends:
- Replace the brake disks on the car PEUGEOT 406 Break (8E/F) in complete set for each axis. Regardless of the state of components. This will ensure even braking.
- The replacement procedure is identical for both brake disks on the same axle.
- When changing the brake discs, always replace the brake pads.
- Please note: all work on the car – PEUGEOT 406 Break (8E/F) – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Open the bonnet. Unscrew the brake fluid reservoir cap.Step 2Secure the wheels with chocks.
- Step 3Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
- Step 4Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.Step 5Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. PEUGEOT 406 Break (8E/F)
- Step 6Remove the wheel.
- Step 7Clean the brake caliper fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Step 8Unscrew the brake caliper fasteners. Use a combination spanner #13. Use a combination spanner #17.
- Step 9Remove the fastening bolts (2 pieces).Step 10Disconnect the brake pad wear sensor plug.
- Step 11Disconnect the brake pad wear sensor wire.Step 12Spread the brake pads. Use a crowbar.
- Step 13Remove the brake caliper. Use a crowbar.Replacement: brake discs – PEUGEOT 406 Break (8E/F). Tip from AUTODOC:Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur. Check the brake caliper bracket, brake caliper guide pins and boots. Clean them. Replace, if necessary.
- Step 14Remove the brake pads. Use a crowbar.
- Step 15Clean the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 16Unscrew the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use Torx T55. Use a tap wrench. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 17Remove the fastening bolts (2 pieces).Step 18Remove the caliper bracket.
- Step 19Clean the brake disc fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 20Unscrew the brake disc fasteners. Use Torx T30. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 21Remove the brake disc.
- Step 22Clean the hub. Use a wire brush. Treat the contacting surface. Use copper grease.
- Step 23Install the brake disc.
- Step 24Tighten the brake disc fasteners. Use a Phillips screwdriver. Use Torx T30. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 10 Nm torque.
- Step 25Remove the guide pins from the brake caliper.Step 26Clean the brake caliper guide pins.Step 27Treat the brake caliper guide pins. Use the brake caliper guide pin grease.
- Step 28Screw in the guide pins.Step 29Clean the brake caliper bracket from dirt and dust. Use a wire brush. Use a brake cleaner.
