The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right lower control arms.
All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: front lower arm – NISSAN MICRA C+C (K12). Use the following procedure:
Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2
Loosen the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. Use a tap wrench.
Step 3
Raise the car.
Replacement: front lower arm – NISSAN MICRA C+C (K12). Tip:
If you are using a jack, make sure it rests on a flat surface without any unevenness.Be sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands.
Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
AUTODOC recommends:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
Step 5
Remove the wheel.
Step 6
Clean the control arm fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 7
Unscrew the front fastener of the control arm. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 8
Unscrew the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 9
Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 10
Release the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a flat metal-working chisel. Use a hammer.
Step 11
Disconnect the ball joint from the steering knuckle.
Step 12
Unscrew the rear fastener of the control arm. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 13
Remove the fastening bolts.
Step 14
Remove the control arm. Use a crowbar.
Step 15
Clean the suspension arm mounting seats. Use a wire brush. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 16
Install the new control arm.
Step 17
Install the fastening bolts.
Step 18
Connect the ball joint to the steering knuckle.
Step 19
Install the fastening bolt.
Step 20
Support the steering knuckle. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Replacement: front lower arm – NISSAN MICRA C+C (K12). Tip from AUTODOC experts:
For tightening the fasteners correctly, you have to jack up the suspension components to their working position.
Step 21
Tighten the front fastener of the arm. Use a drive socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 114 Nm torque.
Step 22
Tighten the rear fastener of the control arm. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 127 Nm torque.
Step 23
Tighten the ball joint fastener. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #16. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 37 Nm torque.
Step 24
Remove the support from under the steering knuckle.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: front lower arm – NISSAN MICRA C+C (K12). Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms.
Step 25
Clean the wheel rim mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 26
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use ceramic grease.
Step 27
Install the wheel.
Replacement: front lower arm – NISSAN MICRA C+C (K12). Tip:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 28
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 29
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 110 Nm torque.
Step 30
Remove the jacks and chocks.
