Replacement: front lower arm – Nissan X Trail T30. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right lower control arms.
Please note: all work on the car – Nissan X Trail T30 – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #21.
Step 3
Raise the car.
Replacement: front lower arm – Nissan X Trail T30. Tip from AUTODOC:
If you are using a jack, make sure it rests on a flat surface without any unevenness.Be sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands.
Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Nissan X Trail T30
Step 5
Remove the wheel.
Step 6
Clean the fastener connecting the sway bar link to the suspension arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 7
Unscrew the fastener connecting the stabilizer link to the control arm. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 8
Detach the sway bar link from the suspension arm. Use a crowbar.
Step 9
Remove the cotter pin that secures the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a crowbar.
Step 10
Clean all joints of the arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 11
Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #22.
Step 12
Disconnect the ball joint from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller.
Step 13
Unscrew the front fastener of the control arm. Use a combination spanner #22. Use a drive socket #22. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 14
Unscrew the rear fasteners of the arm. Use a drive socket #19. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 15
Remove the fastening bolts (3 pieces).
Step 16
Remove the arm.
Step 17
Clean the suspension arm mounting seats. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 18
Install a new arm.
AUTODOC recommends:
During the installation process, use only new bolts and nuts.
Step 19
Install the fastening bolt.
Step 20
Connect the ball joint to the steering knuckle.
Step 21
Install the fastening bolts (2 pieces).
Step 22
Prop up the steering knuckle. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Replacement: front lower arm – Nissan X Trail T30. AUTODOC recommends:
For tightening the fasteners correctly, you have to jack up the suspension components to their working position.
Step 23
Tighten the rear fasteners of the arm. Use a drive socket #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 130 Nm torque.
Step 24
Tighten the front fastener of the arm. Use a combination spanner #22. Use a drive socket #22. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 110 Nm torque.
Step 25
Tighten the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #22. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 77 Nm torque.
Step 26
Install the cotter pin that secures the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a crowbar.
Step 27
Remove the support from under the steering knuckle.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: front lower arm – Nissan X Trail T30. Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms.
Step 28
Connect the sway bar link to the suspension arm.
Step 29
Tighten the fastener connecting the sway bar link to the suspension arm. Use a drive socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 75 Nm torque.
Step 30
Treat all joints of the arm. Use copper grease.
Step 31
Clean the wheel rim mounting seat. Use a wire brush.
Step 32
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use ceramic grease.
Step 33
Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.
AUTODOC recommends:
After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 34
Install the wheel.
AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts on the car. Nissan X Trail T30
Step 35
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #21.
Step 36
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #21. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 118 Nm torque.
Step 37
Remove the jacks and chocks.
