Replacement: brake caliper – Toyota Prius 2. AUTODOC experts recommend:
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right brake calipers on the same axle.
- Please note: all work on the car – Toyota Prius 2 – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Open the bonnet. Unscrew the brake fluid reservoir cap.
- Step 2Secure the wheels with chocks.
- Step 3Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #21.
- Step 4Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
- Step 5Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Toyota Prius 2
- Step 6Remove the wheel.
- Step 7Clean the area where the brake hose is connected to the caliper, and the guide pins area. Use a wire brush. Use a brake cleaner.AUTODOC recommends:After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
- Step 8Clamp the brake hose off using a brake hose clamp.
- Step 9Unscrew the brake hose from the brake caliper. Use a drive socket #14. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 10Disconnect the brake hose.
- Step 11Clean the brake caliper fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Step 12Unscrew the brake caliper fastening. Use a combination spanner #17. Use a drive socket #14. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 13Remove the guide pins from the brake caliper.Step 14Spread the brake pads. Use a crowbar.
- Step 15Remove the brake caliper.Replacement: brake caliper – Toyota Prius 2. AUTODOC recommends:When replacing the brake caliper, it is recommended to check the brake hose for damages and, if necessary, to replace it with a new one.When replacing a brake caliper it is recommended to replace brake pads, check the state of the brake discs and replace them with new ones if necessary.Check the brake caliper bracket, brake caliper guide pins and boots. Clean them. Replace, if necessary.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur.
- Step 16Install the brake caliper and fix it.
- Step 17Screw in the guide pins.Replacement: brake caliper – Toyota Prius 2. Professionals recommend:If no new guide pins were supplied in a kit with the new brake calipers, use the old pins.Step 18Tighten the brake caliper fasteners. Use a combination spanner #17. Use a drive socket #14. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 34 Nm torque.
- Step 19Treat the brake hose. Use a brake cleaner.AUTODOC recommends:Replacement: brake caliper – Toyota Prius 2. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
- Step 20Install and fix the brake hose into a new caliper.
- Step 21Tighten the fastener connecting the brake pipe to the brake caliper. Use a drive socket #14. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 33 Nm torque.
