Do not re-use the bearing assembly you removed from your Ford Transit Mk7 van car.
The wheel bearing replacement procedure is identical for both wheels on the same axle.
All the work should be carried out with the ignition switched off.
Carry out the replacement steps as follows:
Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2
Remove the wheel centre cap.
Step 3
Loosen the wheel nuts. Use a 21 mm wheel impact socket. Use a tommy bar.
Step 4
Remove the cotter pin that secures the axle fastener. Use a mounting lever. Use long nose pliers.
Step 5
Remove the castle cover from the axle nut.
Step 6
Clean the axle nut. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 7
Loosen the axle nut. Use a 36 mm socket. Use a tommy bar.
Step 8
Raise the car.

If you are using a jack, make sure the car is parked on a hard, flat surface.Make sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands.
Step 9
Unscrew the wheel nuts.
Caution!
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the nuts.
Step 10
Remove the wheel.
Step 11
Unscrew the axle nut. Use a 36 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 12
Remove the axle washer. Use a telescoping magnetic pick-up tool.
Step 13
Jack up the suspension arm. Use a transmission jack or one more vehicle jack.
Step 14
Detach the CV axle from the steering knuckle. Use a pin punch. Use a hammer.
Step 15
Remove the support from under the suspension arm.
Caution!
Make sure that the CV axle is not hanging down.
Step 16
Spread the brake pads apart. Use a mounting lever.
Step 17
Clean the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 18
Unscrew the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use an 18 mm socket. Use a tommy bar.
Step 19
Remove the fastening bolts. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 20
Remove the brake caliper together with its bracket.
Replacement: wheel bearing – Ford Transit Mk7 van. AUTODOC recommends:
Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting it from the brake hose to avoid opening the brake line.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging from the brake hose.Do not press the brake pedal after the caliper has been removed. This may cause the piston to fall out of the caliper bore resulting in the brake fluid leakage and air entering the system.
Step 21
Unscrew the wheel bearing fasteners. Use a T50 Torx bit. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 22
Remove the fastening bolts.
Step 23
Remove the wheel hub together with the brake disc.
Step 24
Clean the wheel bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 25
Clean the mounting seat of the brake caliper bracket. Use a wire brush. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 26
Clean the splines of the CV joint. Use a wire brush. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 27
Clean the brake disc fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 28
Unscrew the brake disc fasteners. Use a 13 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 29
Remove the fastening bolts.
Step 30
Detach the brake disc from the wheel hub.
Step 31
Clean the brake disc surface that is in contact with the wheel rim. Use a wire brush.
Step 32
Press the hub out of the bearing. At this stage, the inner race of the bearing and the cage with rollers will remain on the hub. Use a bush and bearing driver set and a hydraulic press.
Step 33
Clean the grease from the inner part of the bearing that remains on the hub, using a cloth.
Step 34
Press the hub out of the inner race of the bearing. Use a bush and bearing driver set. Use a bearing separator and a hydraulic press.
Step 35
Clean the bearing mounting seat on the hub. Use a wire brush. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 36
Press the new bearing on the hub. Use a bush and bearing driver set and a hydraulic press.
Replacement: wheel bearing – Ford Transit Mk7 van. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
When pressing the wheel bearing on, check to make sure it is positioned correctly. Avoid any misalignment.
Step 37
Install the brake disc on the wheel hub.
Step 38
Install the fastening bolts.
Step 39
Screw in the brake disc fasteners. Use a 13 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 40
Treat the mounting surface on the wheel bearing. Use ceramic grease.
Step 41
Install the wheel hub together with brake disc.
Step 42
Install the fastening bolts.
Step 43
Jack up the suspension arm.
Step 44
Tighten the wheel bearing fastening bolts. Use a T50 Torx bit. Use a torque wrench. Tightening torque: 53 N·m.
Step 45
Install the brake caliper together with its bracket.
Step 46
Install the fastening bolts.
Step 47
Tighten the fasteners of the brake caliper bracket. Use an 18 mm socket. Use a torque wrench. Tightening torque: 175 N·m.
Step 48
Tighten the brake disc fasteners. Use a 13 mm socket. Use a torque wrench. Tightening torque: 80 N·m.
Step 49
Remove the support from under the suspension arm.
Important!
Lower the transmission or vehicle jack smoothly without jerking it to avoid damaging the vehicle assemblies and mechanisms.When reassembling, use a new axle nut kit: a washer, a nut, a castle cover, and a cotter pin.
Step 50
Install the axle washer.
Step 51
Screw on the axle nut. Use a 36 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 52
Clean the wheel rim mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 53
Treat the wheel hub surface that contacts the wheel rim. Use ceramic grease.
Step 54
Install the wheel.
Replacement: wheel bearing – Ford Transit Mk7 van. Tip:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing on the fastening nuts.
Step 55
Screw on the wheel nuts. Use a 21 mm wheel impact socket. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 56
Lower the car and tighten the wheel nuts in a criss-cross order. Use a 21 mm wheel impact socket. Use a torque wrench. Tightening torque: 200 N·m.
Step 57
Tighten the axle nut. Use a 36 mm socket. Use a torque wrench. Tightening torque: 320 N·m.
Step 58
Install the castle cover on the axle nut.
Step 59
Install the cotter pin. Use a mounting lever.
Step 60
Install the wheel centre cap.
Step 61
Remove the jack, jack stands, and wheel chocks.
