FORD service and maintenance manuals

Repairing and servicing Ford Mondeo yourself

Running gear

  • There often occur problems with ball joints, bushes, front stabilizer links. Moreover, hub bearings quickly get out of order. With the help of our step-by-step video tutorial on Ford Mondeo repair, you can replace most of the components of the running gear with no trouble.
  • The dust boots of the inner and outer CV joints are non-durable. Inspect them every time when doing the vehicle maintenance, and replace if even smallest cracks are found.

Lighting

  • In cars with xenon headlights, the bulbs quickly burn out. You can replace these components with more durable ones yourself. With our step-by-step instructions on Ford Mondeo repair and servicing you will easily handle this work. Follow the recommendations of the car manufacturer regarding the wattage and type of the bulbs.
  • Owners of vehicles with factory-installed xenon lights notice a delay in switching between the low and high beam. Moreover, inaccurate operation of self-leveling headlights may take place. For instance, the light beam is always directed to the lowest position. Usually these problems are caused by faulty igniters. You can install the new parts yourself if you have experience in car electrics and have studied our illustrated PDF guide on Ford Mondeo repair.

Engine

  • Premature wear-out of the timing belt and its tensioners is typical of the B5Y, BWY and B4Y cars. When doing Ford Mondeo repair and maintenance yourself always inspect these parts for damage.
  • 1.6 engines are characterized by short working lifespan. Particularly, the variable valve timing gear is non-durable. Its failure leads to oil starvation of the camshafts. It is better to entrust this repair job to specialists. As for the amount and quality of oil in the system, you can control it at home.
  • The piston rings and valve stem oil seals wear out quickly. If you notice excessive oil consumption, have your engine checked immediately.

Body

  • The doors of the BA7 cars are prone to sagging as early as after 3–4 years of use. The door seals may get out of order even more quickly. You can download our video guide with detailed instructions on replacing these elements and adjusting the doors for free.
  • The BA7 liftbacks have non-durable plastic body panels. To prevent them from being seriously damaged, you need to wash your car regularly without using aggressive cleaning products, and protect them from being hit. The paintwork can be restored by polishing.
