FORD service and maintenance manuals

Repairing and servicing Ford Fiesta yourself

Engine

  • Fuel injectors of Duratec 1.6 petrol engines get clogged after 30,000 kilometres. The engine becomes difficult to start. Premature wear of these parts can be prevented by having them cleaned in due time at a garage.
  • The valve cover is non-durable. Inspect it regularly for leaks. If there are oil stains on it, we recommend that you replace it as soon as possible to prevent your engine from oil starvation. For doing this, you can download step-by-step manuals on Ford Fiesta repair and maintenance for free.
  • Cold engine start may often be difficult. The engine stalls in a few seconds after being switched on, but starts again normally after you rotate the ignition key for the second time. The causes of this malfunction are excessive humidity, low ambient temperature and impurities in the fuel. Store your car in a warm facility and only use high-quality fuel.
  • The rear crankshaft oil seal wears out quickly, which leads to motor oil leakage. You can replace the part at home, having studied our Ford Fiesta repair illustrated PDF manual before that. Be sure to regularly check the oil level in the system, and immediately top up if necessary.

Transmission

  • The gears of the IB5 manual transmission are prone to quick abrasive wear. The 5th gear becomes difficult to engage. The worn parts should be replaced at a garage. To prevent frequent breakdowns of the transmission be sure to have its fluid replaced in due time. Check its condition during DIY Ford Fiesta repair and maintenance.
  • The oil seals of the manual transmission shafts have a short working lifespan. Replace them in due time. Only use high-quality elements of proper shape.
  • The car jerks when its semi-automatic PowerShift gearbox shifts gears. This may be caused by premature wearout of one of the shift forks. Out tip is to entrust the diagnostics of the assembly and installation of new parts to specialists.

Body

  • In winter, the front door locks often freeze up on the cars produced before 2011. The problem can be temporarily fixed with the help of a special lubricant. You can replace the lock cylinders with those more resistant to cold weather yourself. To do this, use our step-by-step video tutorial on Ford Fiesta.
  • Corrosion appears in the area where the rear bumper contacts the wings. You can glue the vulnerable areas over with protection film yourself to prevent them from being exposed to moisture. If there are minor corrosion spots on body elements, clean them and treat with a special compound. Watch our video guide to complete this job as quickly as possible.
