How to change rear wheel bearing on FORD FOCUS (DAW) [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]
All the parts you need to replace – Wheel Bearing for FOCUS (DAW, DBW) and other FORD models
Replacement: wheel bearing – Ford Focus DAW. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
Do not re-use the bearing assembly of your Ford Focus DAW car.
The wheel hub bearing replacement procedure is identical for both wheels on the same axle.
Please note: all work on the car – Ford Focus DAW – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
Step 3
Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.
Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Ford Focus DAW
Step 5
Remove the wheel.
Step 6
Clean the brake caliper fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 7
Unscrew the brake caliper fastening. Use a combination spanner #15. Use a drive socket #13. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 8
Spread the brake pads. Use a crowbar.
Step 9
Remove the brake caliper.
Replacement: wheel bearing – Ford Focus DAW. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur. Check the brake caliper bracket, brake caliper guide pins and boots. Clean them. Replace, if necessary.
Step 10
Remove the brake pads.
Step 11
Unscrew the caliper bracket fastening. Use a combination spanner #13.
Step 12
Remove the caliper bracket.
Step 13
Unscrew the brake disc fastening. Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 14
Remove the brake disc.
Step 15
Clean the axle nut cover. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 16
Remove the wheel hub nut cap. Use a crowbar. Use a hammer.
Step 17
Unscrew the hub nut. Use a drive socket #30. Use a tap wrench.
Step 18
Remove the hub and the bearing together, since they are a sealed unit.
Step 19
Place the hub in the vice.
Step 20
Clean the inner wheel bearing seal. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 21
Remove the inner wheel bearing oil seal. Use a crowbar. Use a hammer.
Step 22
Loosen the vice and remove the hub.
Step 23
Remove the wheel hub bearing retaining ring. Use circlip pliers.
Step 24
Press out the wheel hub bearing. Use a bush and bearing driver set.
Step 25
Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 26
Press fit the new wheel hub bearing into the brake disc. Use a bush and bearing driver set.
Replacement: wheel bearing – Ford Focus DAW. AUTODOC recommends:
Check to make sure the wheel hub bearing is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment. Stop pressing on the surface of the bearing immediately after it has been fitted into its mounting seat.
Step 27
Install the wheel hub bearing retaining ring. Use circlip pliers.
Step 28
Press in the inner wheel bearing oil seal. Use a bush and bearing driver set. Use a hammer.
Step 29
Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use all-purpose cleaning spray. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 30
Install the new wheel hub with a bearing.
Step 31
Tighten the wheel hub nut. Use a drive socket #30. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 235 nm torque.
Replacement: wheel bearing – Ford Focus DAW. Professionals recommend:
The wheel bearing unit must not tilt on the axle pin.
Step 32
Install the cap of the hub nut. Use a rubber mallet.
Replacement: wheel bearing – Ford Focus DAW. AUTODOC experts recommend:
The cap must always be replaced. When you install the previously used cap the sealing will be lost.
Step 33
Clean the hub. Use a wire brush. Treat the contacting surface. Use copper grease.
Step 34
Install the brake disc.
Step 35
Screw in the brake disc fastener. Use a crowbar.
Step 36
Clean the brake caliper bracket from dirt and dust. Use a wire brush. Use a brake cleaner.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: wheel bearing – Ford Focus DAW. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 37
Install the brake caliper bracket.
Step 38
Tighten the brake caliper bracket. Use a drive socket #13. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 55 nm torque.
Step 39
Install the brake pads.
Step 40
Install the brake caliper and fix it. Use a combination spanner #15. Use a drive socket #13. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 35 nm torque.
Step 41
Clean the wheel rim mounting seat. Use a wire brush.
Step 42
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 43
Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.
Replacement: wheel bearing – Ford Focus DAW. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 44
Install the wheel.

Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts on the car. Ford Focus DAW
Step 45
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
Step 46
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 110 Nm torque.
Step 47
Remove the jacks and chocks.
