Replacement: wheel bearing – FORD FOCUS C-MAX. AUTODOC recommends:
- Do not re-use the bearing assembly of your FORD FOCUS C-MAX car.
- The wheel hub bearing replacement procedure is identical for both wheels on the same axle.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: wheel bearing – FORD FOCUS C-MAX. Take the following steps:
- Step 1Secure the wheels with chocks.Step 2Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use a drive socket #19.
- Step 3Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.Step 4Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. FORD FOCUS C-MAX
- Step 5Remove the wheel.
- Step 6Disconnect the ABS sensor wiring.
- Step 7Detach the ABS sensor connector.
- Step 8Clean the stabiliser link fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 9Unscrew the fastener connecting the stabilizer link to the shock strut. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 10Remove the stabilizer rod.
- Step 11Clean the fastener of the driveshaft. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 12Loosen the fastener of the driveshaft. Use a drive socket #12. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 13Remove the fastening bolt.
- Step 14Detach the driveshaft from the steering knuckle. Use a pin punch. Use a hammer.
- Step 15Spread the brake pads. Use a crowbar.
- Step 16Detach the brake hose from the shock strut. Use a crowbar.
- Step 17Clean the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 18Unscrew the caliper bracket fastening. Use a drive socket #15. Use a tap wrench. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 19Remove the brake caliper together with its bracket.Replacement: wheel bearing – FORD FOCUS C-MAX. Tip from AUTODOC:Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur. Check the brake caliper bracket, brake caliper guide pins and boots. Clean them. Replace, if necessary.
- Step 20Clean the brake disc fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 21Remove the brake disc.
- Step 22Clean the fastener connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 23Unscrew the end fastening nut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #15. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 24Disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller.
- Step 25Clean the fasteners connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 26Unscrew the lower fastener connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #15. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 27Remove the fastening bolt.
- Step 28Clean the fastener that connects the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 29Unscrew the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #21.
- Step 30Disconnect the ball joint from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller.
- Step 31Release the lower fastener connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a flat metal-working chisel. Use a hammer.
- Step 32Remove the drive shaft.Replacement: wheel bearing – FORD FOCUS C-MAX. Tip:Make sure that the drive shaft is not unloaded (when the car is jacked).
- Step 33Disconnect the steering knuckle from the shock absorber strut. Use a hammer.
- Step 34Remove the steering knuckle together with the hub.
- Step 35Clean the wheel hub fastener. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 36Remove the hub and the bearing together, since they are a sealed unit. Use a bush and bearing driver set.
- Step 37Clean the wheel hub mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 38Install the new wheel hub with a bearing. Use a bush and bearing driver set.Replacement: wheel bearing – FORD FOCUS C-MAX. Tip from AUTODOC:Make sure that the wheel hub is positioned correctly. Avoid any misalignment.Stop pressing on the surface of the bearing immediately after it has been fitted into its mounting seat.
- Step 39Clean the splines of the drive shaft CV joint. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 40Clean the fasteners connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Clean the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 41Install the steering knuckle with a hub in assembly.
- Step 42Install the drive shaft.
- Step 43Connect the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a crowbar.
