How to change rear suspension arm on TOYOTA RAV4 II [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]

- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right lower control arms.
- Please note: all work on the car – Toyota RAV4 II – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Secure the wheels with chocks.Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19. - Step 3
Raise the car.Replacement: rear lower arm – Toyota RAV4 II. Professionals recommend:If you are using a jack, make sure it rests on a flat surface without any unevenness.Be sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands. - Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Toyota RAV4 II - Step 5
Remove the wheel. - Step 6
Clean all joints of the arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 7
Clean the fastener connecting the sway bar link to the suspension arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 8
Unscrew the fastener connecting the stabilizer link to the control arm. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 9
Remove the stabilizer rod. - Step 10
Unscrew the fastener connecting the control arm to the rear knuckle. Use a combination spanner #17. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 11
Support the rear knuckle. Use a hydraulic transmission jack. - Step 12
Clean the lower shock absorber fastener. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 13
Clean the fasteners of the bracket that connects the shock absorber to the rear knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 14
Unscrew the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #14. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 15
Remove the fastening bolt. - Step 16
Remove the shock absorber. Use a crowbar. - Step 17
Unscrew the fasteners of the bracket that connects the shock absorber to the rear knuckle. Use a drive socket #14. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 18
Remove the fastening bolts. - Step 19
Remove the bracket. - Step 20
Remove the fastening bolt. Use a pin punch. Use a hammer. - Step 21
Make a mark on the camber adjustment bolt. - Step 22
Unscrew the fastener connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use a combination spanner #17. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 23
Remove the fastening bolt. Use a crowbar. - Step 24
Remove the arm. - Step 25
Clean the suspension arm mounting seats. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 26
Install a new arm.AUTODOC recommends:Replacement: rear lower arm – Toyota RAV4 II. Use only new bolts and nuts for installation. - Step 27
Install the fastening bolt. - Step 28
Adjust the position of the alignment bolt according to the mark. - Step 29
Install the fastening bolt. - Step 30
Ιnstall the transverse stabilizer link. - Step 31
Screw in the fastener that connects the sway bar link to the suspension arm. - Step 32
Prop up the steering knuckle. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.Replacement: rear lower arm – Toyota RAV4 II. Tip from AUTODOC experts:For tightening the fasteners correctly, you have to jack up the suspension components to their working position. - Step 33
Tighten the fastener connecting the suspension arm to the rear knuckle. Use a combination spanner #17. Use a drive socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 113 Nm torque.
