How to change front suspension arm on TOYOTA RAV4 II [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]
All the parts you need to replace – Control Arm for RAV 4 II (CLA2_, XA2_, ZCA2_, ACA2_) and other TOYOTA models
Replacement: front lower arm – Toyota RAV4 II. AUTODOC recommends:
The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right lower control arms.
Please note: all work on the car – Toyota RAV4 II – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
Step 3
Raise the car.
Replacement: front lower arm – Toyota RAV4 II. AUTODOC experts recommend:
If you are using a jack, make sure it rests on a flat surface without any unevenness.Be sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands.
Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Toyota RAV4 II
Step 5
Remove the wheel.
Step 6
Clean the rear fastener that connects the suspension arm to the subframe. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 7
Unscrew the rear fastener connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use a combination spanner #19. Use a drive socket #19. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 8
Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 9
Clean the front fastener that connects the suspension arm to the subframe. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 10
Unscrew the front fastener that connects the suspension arm to the subframe. Use a combination spanner #19.
Step 11
Clean the fasteners connecting the ball joint to the suspension control arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 12
Unscrew the fasteners connecting the ball joint to the control arm. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 13
Prop up the steering knuckle. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 14
Detach the suspension arm from the ball joint.
Step 15
Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 16
Remove the arm. Use a crowbar.
Step 17
Clean the suspension arm mounting seats. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 18
Install a new arm.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: front lower arm – Toyota RAV4 II. Use only new bolts and nuts for installation.
Step 19
Install the fastening bolts.
Step 20
Remove the support from under the steering knuckle.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: front lower arm – Toyota RAV4 II. Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms.
Step 21
Connect the control arm to the ball joint.
Step 22
Tighten the fasteners connecting the ball joint to the control arm. Use a drive socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 128 Nm torque.
Step 23
Prop up the steering knuckle. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
AUTODOC recommends:
For tightening the fasteners correctly, you have to jack up the suspension components to their working position.
Step 24
Tighten the front fastener that connects the suspension arm to the subframe. Use a drive socket #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 137 Nm torque.
Step 25
Tighten the rear fastener connecting the arm to the body subframe. Use a combination spanner #19. Use a drive socket #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 137 Nm torque.
Step 26
Remove the support from under the steering knuckle.
Replacement: front lower arm – Toyota RAV4 II. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
Lower the hydraulic transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging assemblies and mechanisms.
Step 27
Treat all joints of the arm. Use copper grease.
Step 28
Clean the wheel rim mounting seat. Use a wire brush.
Step 29
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use ceramic grease.
Step 30
Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: front lower arm – Toyota RAV4 II. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 31
Install the wheel.
AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts on the car. Toyota RAV4 II
Step 32
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
Step 33
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 103 Nm torque.
Step 34
Remove the jacks and chocks.
