AUTODOC recommends:

Do not re-use the bearing assembly of your FORD MONDEO III (B5Y) car.
The wheel hub bearing replacement procedure is identical for both wheels on the same axle.
Please note: all work on the car – FORD MONDEO III (B5Y) – should be done with the engine switched off.

Carry out replacement in the following order:

Step 1

Open the bonnet. Unscrew the brake fluid reservoir cap.
Step 2

Clean the fastener of the driveshaft. Use WD-40 spray.

Step 3

Loosen the fastener of the driveshaft. Use a drive socket #32. Use a tap wrench.
Step 4

Secure the wheels with chocks.

Step 5

Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
Step 6

Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
Step 7

Unscrew the wheel bolts.

AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. FORD MONDEO III (B5Y)
Step 8

Remove the wheel.
Step 9

Remove the fastening nut.
Step 10

Spread the brake pads. Use a crowbar.
Step 11

Clean the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 12

Unscrew the caliper bracket fastening. Use a drive socket #15. Use a ratchet wrench. Use a tap wrench.
Step 13

Remove the brake caliper together with its bracket.

Replacement: wheel bearing – FORD MONDEO III (B5Y). Tip from AUTODOC:
Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur.
Step 14

Remove the brake disc.
Step 15

Clean the fastener connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 16

Unscrew the end fastening nut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #15. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 17

Disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller.
Step 18

Clean the ABS sensor fastener. Use a nylon cleaning brush. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 19

Detach the ABS sensor connector.
Step 20

Clean the fasteners connecting the ball joint to the suspension control arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 21

Unscrew the fastener connecting the ball joint to the suspension control arm. Use a combination spanner #17. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 22

Remove the fastening bolts.
Step 23

Clean the lower fastener connecting the suspension strut to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 24

Unscrew the lower fastener connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #15. Use a ratchet wrench. Use a tap wrench.
Step 25

Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 26

Detach the driveshaft from the steering knuckle. Use a pin punch. Use a hammer.

Replacement: wheel bearing – FORD MONDEO III (B5Y). Professionals recommend:
Make sure that the drive shaft is not unloaded (when the car is jacked).
Step 27

Disconnect the spherical joint from the arm.
Step 28

Release the lower fastener connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a special drive socket to remove the shock absorber. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 29

Remove the steering knuckle together with the hub. Use a hammer.
Step 30

Remove the wheel hub from the steering knuckle. Use a bush and bearing driver set.
Step 31

Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 32

Press out the wheel hub bearing. Use a bush and bearing driver set.
Step 33

Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 34

Pull the bearing inner race out of the wheel hub. Use a universal puller. Use a bush and bearing driver set.
Step 35

Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 36

Press the new bearing in the steering knuckle. Use a bush and bearing driver set.

Replacement: wheel bearing – FORD MONDEO III (B5Y). AUTODOC recommends:
Check to make sure the wheel hub bearing is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment. Stop pressing on the surface of the bearing immediately after it has been fitted into its mounting seat.
Step 37

Treat the wheel hub mounting seat. Use WD-40 spray.

Step 38

Install the wheel hub on the steering knuckle. Use a bush and bearing driver set.

Replacement: wheel bearing – FORD MONDEO III (B5Y). Tip:
Make sure that the wheel hub is positioned correctly. Avoid any misalignment.
Step 39

Treat the shock strut mounting seat on the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 40

Clean the splines of the drive shaft CV joint. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 41

Install the steering knuckle with a hub in assembly.
Step 42

Install the fastening bolt.
Step 43

Screw in the fastener that connects the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #15. Use a ratchet wrench. Use a tap wrench.
Step 44

Install the drive shaft.
Step 45

Attach the ball joint to the control arm.
Step 46

Install the fastening bolts.
Step 47

Screw in the fastener connecting the ball joint to the control arm. Use a combination spanner #17. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 48

Tighten the fasteners connecting the ball joint to the control arm. Use a drive socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 44 Nm torque.
Step 49

Tighten the lower fastening of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #15. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 83 Nm torque.
Step 50

Clean the fastener connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 51

Connect the tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
Step 52

Screw on the fastening nut that connects the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #15. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 53

Tighten the fastening nut connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #15. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 40 nm torque.
Step 54

Install the fastening nut.
Step 55

Screw the nut of the drive shaft. Use a drive socket #32. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 56

Clean the hub. Use a wire brush.
Step 57

Treat the contacting surface. Use copper grease.
Step 58

Treat the ABS sensor connector. Use dielectric grease.
Step 59

Attach the ABS sensor connector.
Step 60

Install the brake disc.
Step 61

Install the brake caliper together with its bracket.
Step 62

Tighten the brake caliper bracket. Use a drive socket #15. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 100 Nm torque.
Step 63

Treat all joints of the arm.
Step 64

Treat the steering knuckle fasteners. Use copper grease.

Step 65

Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 66

Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.

AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: wheel bearing – FORD MONDEO III (B5Y). After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 67

Install the wheel.

AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts on the car. FORD MONDEO III (B5Y)
Step 68

Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
Step 69

Lower the car.
Step 70

Tighten the drive shaft nut. Use a drive socket #32. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 290 Nm torque.
Step 71

Tighten the wheel bolts using a criss-cross pattern. Use wheel impact socket #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 90 Nm torque.
Step 72

Remove the jacks and chocks.

Replacement: wheel bearing – FORD MONDEO III (B5Y). Professionals recommend:
Without starting the engine, press the brake pedal several times until you feel significant resistance.
Step 73

Tighten the brake fluid reservoir cap. Close the hood.
