AUTODOC recommends:
- Do not re-use the bearing assembly of your FORD MONDEO III (B5Y) car.
- The wheel hub bearing replacement procedure is identical for both wheels on the same axle.
- Please note: all work on the car – FORD MONDEO III (B5Y) – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Open the bonnet. Unscrew the brake fluid reservoir cap.
- Step 2Clean the fastener of the driveshaft. Use WD-40 spray.Step 3Loosen the fastener of the driveshaft. Use a drive socket #32. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 4Secure the wheels with chocks.Step 5Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
- Step 6Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
- Step 7Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Important! Hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. FORD MONDEO III (B5Y)
- Step 8Remove the wheel.
- Step 9Remove the fastening nut.
- Step 10Spread the brake pads. Use a crowbar.
- Step 11Clean the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 12Unscrew the caliper bracket fastening. Use a drive socket #15. Use a ratchet wrench. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 13Remove the brake caliper together with its bracket.Replacement: wheel bearing – FORD MONDEO III (B5Y). Tip from AUTODOC:Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur.
- Step 14Remove the brake disc.
- Step 15Clean the fastener connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 16Unscrew the end fastening nut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #15. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 17Disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller.
- Step 18Clean the ABS sensor fastener. Use a nylon cleaning brush. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
- Step 19Detach the ABS sensor connector.
- Step 20Clean the fasteners connecting the ball joint to the suspension control arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 21Unscrew the fastener connecting the ball joint to the suspension control arm. Use a combination spanner #17. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 22Remove the fastening bolts.
- Step 23Clean the lower fastener connecting the suspension strut to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 24Unscrew the lower fastener connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #15. Use a ratchet wrench. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 25Remove the fastening bolt.
- Step 26Detach the driveshaft from the steering knuckle. Use a pin punch. Use a hammer.Replacement: wheel bearing – FORD MONDEO III (B5Y). Professionals recommend:Make sure that the drive shaft is not unloaded (when the car is jacked).
- Step 27Disconnect the spherical joint from the arm.
- Step 28Release the lower fastener connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a special drive socket to remove the shock absorber. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 29Remove the steering knuckle together with the hub. Use a hammer.
- Step 30Remove the wheel hub from the steering knuckle. Use a bush and bearing driver set.
- Step 31Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 32Press out the wheel hub bearing. Use a bush and bearing driver set.
- Step 33Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 34Pull the bearing inner race out of the wheel hub. Use a universal puller. Use a bush and bearing driver set.
- Step 35Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 36Press the new bearing in the steering knuckle. Use a bush and bearing driver set.Replacement: wheel bearing – FORD MONDEO III (B5Y). AUTODOC recommends:Check to make sure the wheel hub bearing is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment. Stop pressing on the surface of the bearing immediately after it has been fitted into its mounting seat.
- Step 37Treat the wheel hub mounting seat. Use WD-40 spray.Step 38Install the wheel hub on the steering knuckle. Use a bush and bearing driver set.Replacement: wheel bearing – FORD MONDEO III (B5Y). Tip:Make sure that the wheel hub is positioned correctly. Avoid any misalignment.
- Step 39Treat the shock strut mounting seat on the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 40Clean the splines of the drive shaft CV joint. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 41Install the steering knuckle with a hub in assembly.
- Step 42Install the fastening bolt.
- Step 43Screw in the fastener that connects the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #15. Use a ratchet wrench. Use a tap wrench.
