How to change rear wheel bearing on FORD MONDEO MK3 Saloon [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]
All the parts you need to replace – Wheel Bearing for MONDEO III Saloon (B4Y) and other FORD models
Do not re-use the bearing assembly of your Ford Mondeo Mk3 saloon car.
The wheel hub bearing replacement procedure is identical for both wheels on the same axle.
Please note: all work on the car – Ford Mondeo Mk3 saloon – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
Step 3
Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.
Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Ford Mondeo Mk3 saloon
Step 5
Remove the wheel.
Step 6
Clean the fastener of the parking brake cable. Use a wire brush. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 7
Release the parking brake cable. Use nippers.
Use a crowbar.
Step 8
Clean the brake caliper fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 9
Unscrew the brake caliper fastening. Use a combination spanner #13.
Step 10
Remove the brake caliper. Use a crowbar.
Replacement: wheel bearing – Ford Mondeo Mk3 saloon. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur.Check the brake caliper bracket, brake caliper guide pins and boots. Clean them. Replace, if necessary.
Step 11
Remove the brake pads. Use a crowbar.
Step 12
Clean the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 13
Unscrew the caliper bracket fastening. Use a drive socket #13. Use a tap wrench. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 14
Remove the caliper bracket.
Step 15
Clean the brake disc fastener. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 16
Unscrew the brake disc fastening.
Step 17
Remove the brake disc.
Step 18
Clean the ABS sensor connector. Use a nylon cleaning brush. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 19
Detach the ABS sensor connector.
Step 20
Clean the wheel hub fastener. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 21
Unscrew the wheel hub bolts. Use Torx T50. Use a tap wrench.
Step 22
Remove the hub and the bearing together, since they are a sealed unit. Use a hammer.
Step 23
Remove the brake disc baffle plate.
Step 24
Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 25
Install the brake disc baffle plate.
Step 26
Install the new wheel hub with a bearing.
Step 27
Tighten the wheel hub bolts. Use Torx T50. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 70 nm torque.
Step 28
Treat the wheel hub fasteners. Use copper grease.
Step 29
Treat the ABS sensor connector. Use electronic spray.
Step 30
Attach the ABS sensor connector.
Step 31
Apply some copper grease to the hub where it contacts the brake disk.
Step 32
Install the brake disc.
Step 33
Screw in the brake disc fastener.
Step 34
Clean the brake caliper bracket from dirt and dust. Use a wire brush. Use a brake cleaner.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: wheel bearing – Ford Mondeo Mk3 saloon. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 35
Install the brake caliper bracket.
Step 36
Tighten the brake caliper bracket. Use a drive socket #13. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 65 Nm torque.
Step 37
Install the brake pads.
Step 38
Install the brake caliper and fix it. Use a drive socket #13. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 30 Nm torque.
Step 39
Install the parking brake cable into the brake caliper bracket. Use nippers.
Use a crowbar.
Step 40
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 41
Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.
Replacement: wheel bearing – Ford Mondeo Mk3 saloon. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 42
Install the wheel.

Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts on the car. Ford Mondeo Mk3 saloon
Step 43
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
Step 44
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 90 Nm torque.
Step 45
Remove the jacks and chocks.
Replacement: wheel bearing – Ford Mondeo Mk3 saloon. AUTODOC recommends:
Without starting the engine, press the brake pedal several times until you feel significant resistance.
