Replacement: front lower arm – FORD MONDEO III (B5Y). AUTODOC recommends:

The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right lower control arms.
All work should be done with the engine stopped.

Replacement: front lower arm – FORD MONDEO III (B5Y). Use the following procedure:

Step 1

Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2

Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
Step 3

Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.

Step 4

Unscrew the wheel bolts.

Replacement: front lower arm – FORD MONDEO III (B5Y). Tip:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
Step 5

Remove the wheel.
Step 6

Clean the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 7

Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle. Use Torx T55. Use a drive socket #18. Use a tap wrench. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 8

Remove the fastening bolt. Use a hammer.

Step 9

Clean the fasteners connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 10

Unscrew the front arm fastener. Use a drive socket #15. Use a tap wrench.
Step 11

Disconnect the ball joint from the steering knuckle. Use a crowbar.

Step 12

Unscrew the rear fastener connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use a combination spanner #15. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench. Use a pin punch. Use a hammer.
Step 13

Remove the front fastener of the control arm. Use a crowbar.

Step 14

Unscrew the fastener of the bracket that connects the control arm to the сar body. Use a drive socket #10. Use a drive socket #21. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 15

Remove the fastening bolts.

Step 16

Dismantle the retainer.
Step 17

Unscrew the fastener of the bracket that connects the control arm to the сar body. Use a drive socket #21. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 18

Support the arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 19

Remove the fastening bolt.

Step 20

Dismantle the retainer. Remove the support from under the arm.

AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: front lower arm – FORD MONDEO III (B5Y). Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms.
Step 21

Remove the rear fastener of the control arm. Use a crowbar.

Step 22

Remove the arm.
Step 23

Clean the mounting seats and the thread of the suspension arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.

Step 24

Install a new arm.

Replacement: front lower arm – FORD MONDEO III (B5Y). AUTODOC experts recommend:
During the installation process, use only new bolts and nuts.Do not damage the ball joint cover.
Step 25

Install the rear fastener of the control arm. Use a crowbar.
Step 26

Support the arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 27

Install the bracket onto the new arm.
Step 28

Install the fastening bolt.
Step 29

Tighten the fastener of the bracket that connects the control arm to the car body. Use a drive socket #21. Use a torque wrench. Observe the recommended tightening torque.
Step 30

Install the bracket onto the new arm.

Step 31

Install the fastening bolts.
Step 32

Tighten the fastener of the bracket that connects the control arm to the car body. Use a drive socket #21. Use a torque wrench. Observe the recommended tightening torque.
Step 33

Tighten the fastener of the bracket that connects the control arm to the car body. Use a drive socket #10. Use a torque wrench. Observe the recommended tightening torque.
Step 34

Remove the support from under the arm.

AUTODOC recommends:
FORD MONDEO III (B5Y) – Do not lower the transmission jack sharply to avoid damaging components and mechanisms of the car.
Step 35

Connect the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a crowbar.
Step 36

Install the fastening bolt. Use a hammer.

Step 37

Install the front fastener of the arm. Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 38

Screw the front arm fastener. Use a drive socket #15. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 39

Support the arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 40

Tighten the front fastener connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use a drive socket #15. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 80 Nm torque.+60°

AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Be sure to use new fasteners.
Step 41

Remove the support from under the arm.

Replacement: front lower arm – FORD MONDEO III (B5Y). Tip from AUTODOC experts:
Lower the hydraulic transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging assemblies and mechanisms.
Step 42

Tighten the rear fastener of the control arm. Use a combination spanner #15. Use a drive socket #18. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 90 Nm torque.+60°

AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Be sure to use new fasteners.
Step 43

Tighten the ball joint fastener. Use Torx T55. Use a drive socket #18. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 83 Nm torque.
Step 44

Treat all joints of the arm. Use copper grease.

Step 45

Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 46

Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.

AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: front lower arm – FORD MONDEO III (B5Y). After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 47

Install the wheel.

Replacement: front lower arm – FORD MONDEO III (B5Y). Tip from AUTODOC:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 48

Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
Step 49

Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 90 nm torque.
Step 50

Remove the jacks and chocks.
