Replacement: suspension strut – Toyota Aygo AB1. AUTODOC recommends:
Both shock struts of the front suspension should be replaced simultaneously.
The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right shock struts of the front suspension.
All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: suspension strut – Toyota Aygo AB1. Take the following steps:
Step 1
Open the bonnet.
Step 2
Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.
Step 3
Loosen the upper fastener of the shock strut mount. Use a combination spanner #17. Use HEX No.H7.
Step 4
Clean the wheel hub fastener. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 5
Unstake the fastener of the driveshaft. Use a flat metal-working chisel. Use a hammer.
Step 6
Loosen the fastener of the driveshaft. Use 12-point socket No.30. Use a tap wrench.
Step 7
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 8
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
Step 9
Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
Step 10
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Toyota Aygo AB1
Step 11
Remove the wheel.
Step 12
Disconnect the fastener of the ABS sensor cable from the shock absorber strut.
Step 13
Clean the fasteners of the ABS sensor and of the brake hose which connect them to the shock strut. Clean the fasteners connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 14
Unscrew the brake hose fastening bracket from the shock strut. Use a drive socket #15.
Step 15
Unscrew the lower fastener connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #17. Use a drive socket #17. Use a tap wrench.
Step 16
Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 17
Clean all joints of the arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 18
Remove the cotter pin. Use round-nose pliers.
Step 19
Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #19.
Step 20
Prop up the steering knuckle. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 21
Disconnect the lower arm from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller. Use a crowbar.
Step 22
Unscrew the fastener connecting the drive shaft to the wheel hub. Use 12-point socket No.30.
Step 23
Remove the drive shaft. Use a pin punch. Use a hammer.
Step 24
Release the lower fastener connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a flat metal-working chisel. Use a hammer.
Step 25
Remove the support from under the steering knuckle.
Replacement: suspension strut – Toyota Aygo AB1. AUTODOC experts recommend:
Lower the hydraulic transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging assemblies and mechanisms.
Step 26
Disconnect the steering knuckle from the shock absorber strut. Use a flat metal-working chisel. Use a hammer.
AUTODOC recommends:
Make sure that the steering knuckle is supported.
Step 27
Unscrew the top fastening of the shock strut mount.
AUTODOC recommends:
Toyota Aygo AB1 – To avoid injury, hold the suspension strut while unscrewing the fastening bolts.
Step 28
Remove the suspension strut.
Step 29
Set the shock absorber strut on the spring compressor tool.
Replacement: suspension strut – Toyota Aygo AB1. Tip:
Note that when using a spring compressor, spring coils need to be securely gripped, compressing the spring on the opposite sides.Ensure the correct position of the spring in the retainer.Make sure that the spring coils tightly entered the lock handles.
Step 30
Compress the spring.
Step 31
Treat the shock strut rod. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 32
Remove the strut piston rod nut. Use a combination spanner #17. Use XZN #6. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 33
Remove the top strut mount.
Step 34
Release the coil spring.
Step 35
Remove the shock absorber dust cap and the bump stop.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: suspension strut – Toyota Aygo AB1. Carefully inspect the mount, the boot, and the bump stop of the shock absorber. Replace if necessary.
Step 36
Remove the spring.
Step 37
Remove the old shock absorber from the hydraulic coil spring compressor.
Replacement: suspension strut – Toyota Aygo AB1. Tip from AUTODOC:
Before installing a new shock absorber you should pump it manually 3-5 times.
Step 38
Install the new shock absorber on the hydraulic coil spring compressor.
Step 39
Install the spring on the shock absorber.
Step 40
Install the dust sleeve and the bump stop on the new shock absorber.
Step 41
Compress the spring.
Step 42
Install the upper strut mount and the strut mount bearing.
Step 43
Tighten the shock strut piston rod nut. Use a combination spanner #17. Use XZN #6. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 33 Nm torque.
Replacement: suspension strut – Toyota Aygo AB1. Professionals recommend:
Check to make sure the spring is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment.
Step 44
Decompress the spring.
Step 45
Remove the assembled shock strut.
Step 46
Install the shock strut into the wheel arch.
Step 47
Screw the top fastening of the shock strut mount. Do not tighten it.
Replacement: suspension strut – Toyota Aygo AB1. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
To avoid injuries, hold the shock strut when screwing the fastening bolts in.
Step 48
Clean the mounting seats of the shock strut. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 49
Fix the shock absorber strut on the steering knuckle.
Step 50
Clean the splines of the drive shaft CV joint. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 51
Treat the splines of the driveshaft CV joint. Use copper grease.
Step 52
Mount the drive shaft into the
wheel hub.
Step 53
Connect the lower arm to the steering knuckle. Use a crowbar.
Step 54
Screw the fasteners of the ball joint. Use a combination spanner #19.
Step 55
Install the fastening bolt.
Step 56
Screw in the fastener that connects the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #17. Use a combination spanner #17.
Step 57
Tighten the brake hose fastening bracket to the shock strut. Use a drive socket #15.
Step 58
Connect the fastener of the ABS sensor cable to the shock absorber strut.
Step 59
Tighten the lower fasteners connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #17. Use a drive socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 52 Nm torque.
Step 60
Tighten the ball joint fastener. Use a combination spanner #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 98 nm torque.
Step 61
Install the cotter pin.
Step 62
Treat the shock strut fasteners. Use copper grease.
Step 63
Screw the nut of the drive shaft. Use 12-point socket No.30.
Step 64
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 65
Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: suspension strut – Toyota Aygo AB1. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.

Install the wheel.
Replacement: suspension strut – Toyota Aygo AB1. AUTODOC recommends:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 67
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
Step 68
Lower the car.
Step 69
Tighten the drive shaft nut. Use 12-point socket No.30. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 216 nm torque.
Step 70
Restake the fastener of the driveshaft. Use a flat metal-working chisel. Use a hammer.
Step 71
Tighten the upper fastener of the shock absorber strut mount. Use a combination spanner #17. Use HEX No.H7. Use a drive socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 50 nm torque.
Step 72
Tighten the wheel bolts using a criss-cross pattern. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 103 Nm torque.
Step 73
Remove the jacks and chocks.
Step 74
Remove the fender protection cover.
Step 75
Close the hood.
