Replacement: strut mount – TOYOTA RAV 4 I (SXA1_). AUTODOC recommends:
- All mounts of the front shock struts should be replaced simultaneously.
- The replacement procedure is identical for the mounts of the left and right shock struts of the front suspension.
- Be sure to replace all self-locking nuts and bolts during installation.
- Please note: all work on the car – TOYOTA RAV 4 I (SXA1_) – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks. - Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. - Step 3
Raise the front of the car and secure on supports. - Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Important! Hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. TOYOTA RAV 4 I (SXA1_) - Step 5
Remove the wheel. - Step 6
Clean the stabiliser link fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 7
Unscrew the fastener connecting the stabilizer link to the shock strut. Use a drive socket #14. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 8
Remove the stabilizer rod. - Step 9
Disconnect the wiring and the brake hose from the bracket on the shock strut. Use a drive socket #12. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 10Clean the fasteners connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Step 11
Unscrew the lower fastener connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #19. Use a drive socket #19. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 12Remove the fastening bolts.Step 13
Disconnect the steering knuckle from the shock absorber strut. - Step 14Lower the car.Step 15Open the bonnet.Step 16Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.Step 17Clean the fasteners of the shock strut upper mount. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Step 18
Loosen the upper fastener of the shock strut mount. Use a drive socket #14. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 19Unscrew the top fastening of the shock strut mount.Replacement: strut mount – TOYOTA RAV 4 I (SXA1_). Tip:To avoid injuries, hold the shock strut when undoing the fastening bolts.Step 20
Remove the suspension strut. - Step 21
Set the shock absorber strut on the spring compressor tool.Replacement: strut mount – TOYOTA RAV 4 I (SXA1_). AUTODOC experts recommend:Note that when using a spring compressor, spring coils need to be securely gripped, compressing the spring on the opposite sides.Ensure the correct position of the spring in the retainer.Make sure that the spring coils tightly entered the lock handles. - Step 22Compress the spring.Step 23
Remove the shock strut mount cap. Use a crowbar. - Step 24Treat the shock strut rod. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Step 25
Remove the strut piston rod nut. Use a drive socket #19. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 26
Remove the top strut mount. - Step 27Treat the fasteners of the shock strut mount. Use WD-40 spray.Replacement: strut mount – TOYOTA RAV 4 I (SXA1_). Professionals recommend:Examine the shock absorber dust cap and the bump stop. Replace them if necessary.Step 28
Install a new strut mount. - Step 29
Tighten the shock strut piston rod nut. Use a drive socket #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 47 Nm torque.Replacement: strut mount – TOYOTA RAV 4 I (SXA1_). AUTODOC experts recommend:Check to make sure the spring is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment. - Step 30Treat the shock strut rod. Use copper grease.Step 31
Install the shock strut mount cap. - Step 32
Decompress the spring.
