HDi, e-HDi and BlueHDi engines: definitions, performance and common faults

What is HDi, e-HDi, BlueHDi? Engine performance characteristics

HDi, e-HDi, BlueHDi are diesel power units with a turbocharger and Common Rail fuel injection system installed on Citroën and Peugeot vehicles. They have been produced since 1998. 4 generations of these motors meeting Euro III, Euro IV, Euro V and Euro VI standards requirements respectively, are presented today. Some of these engines were developed in collaboration with the Ford Motor Company. They are used on Ford, Land Rover, Jaguar, Suzuki cars under different indexes. More powerful versions of the engines are usually equipped with variable-geometry turbochargers or twin-turbo. Common Rail fuel injection systems produced by Bosch, Siemens, Delphi and Continental are used on various vehicle models as fuel supply systems.

BlueHDi versions differ from HDi by presence of exhaust aftertreatment systems. e-HDi versions feature “Start-Stop” and regenerative braking systems.
