
Ford 4F27E transmission is a classic automatic gearbox with electronic control, hydraulic torque converter and planetary gear sets, installed on Ford and Mazda cars. It has 4 gears and a manual shifting mode. It was first released in 1998 and is still used now on many cars. This gearbox was co-developed by the Ford Motor Company and Mazda Motor Company. Common malfunctions of Ford 4F27E transmission
- Clutch packs burn out rather quickly. This results from some design features of this gearbox and the transmission control unit settings, which cause overloading of the unit.
- Brake bands wear out prematurely, causing harder shifting to certain gears.
- Seals of the pump get leaky.
- Teflon sealing rings of the pump and rear cover wear out which results in leaks as well.
- The planetary gear set has a short lifespan.
