How to change rear brake discs on TOYOTA RAV4 II [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]
All the parts you need to replace – Brake Discs for RAV 4 II (CLA2_, XA2_, ZCA2_, ACA2_) and other TOYOTA models
Replace the brake disks on the car Toyota RAV4 II in complete set for each axis. Regardless of the state of components. This will ensure even braking.
The replacement procedure is identical for both brake disks on the same axle.
When changing the brake discs, always replace the brake pads.
Please note: all work on the car – Toyota RAV4 II – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
Step 1
Open the bonnet. Unscrew the brake fluid reservoir cap.
Step 2
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 3
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
Step 4
Raise the car.
Replacement: brake discs – Toyota RAV4 II. Tip from AUTODOC:
If you are using a jack, make sure it rests on a flat surface without any unevenness.Be sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands.
Step 5
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Toyota RAV4 II
Step 6
Remove the wheel.
Step 7
Detach the brake caliper retaining spring. Use a crowbar.
Step 8
Remove the retaining springs of the brake pads. Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 9
Clean the brake pad guide pins. Use a wire brush. Use a brake cleaner.
AUTODOC recommends:
After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 10
Remove the brake pad guide pins. Use a pin punch. Use a hammer.
Step 11
Remove the brake pads.
Step 12
Clean the brake caliper fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 13
Unscrew the brake caliper fasteners. Use a drive socket #14. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 14
Remove the brake caliper.
Replacement: brake discs – Toyota RAV4 II. AUTODOC experts recommend:
Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur.
Step 15
Remove the rubber plug. Use a crowbar.
Step 16
Release the parking brake adjuster. Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 17
Remove the brake disc.
Step 18
Clean the hub. Use a wire brush. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 19
Treat the contacting surface. Use ceramic grease.
Step 20
Install the brake disc.
Step 21
Set the parking brake adjuster in the correct position. Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 22
Install the rubber plug. Use a crowbar.
Step 23
Treat the brake caliper pistons. Use a nylon cleaning brush. Use a brake cleaner.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: brake discs – Toyota RAV4 II. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.Check the brake caliper bracket, brake caliper guide pins and boots. Clean them. Replace, if necessary.
Step 24
Wind back the brake caliper pistons. Use brake caliper wind back tool.
Step 25
Install the brake caliper and fix it.
Step 26
Tighten the brake caliper fasteners. Use a drive socket #14. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 44 Nm torque.
Step 27
Treat the brake pads in the area where their surface comes into contact with the brake caliper bracket. Use anti-squeal paste.

Make sure the disc surface is clean before installing the pads.
Step 28
Install the brake pads.
Step 29
Install the brake pad guide pins.
Step 30
Install the retaining springs of the brake pads. Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 31
Install the brake caliper retaining spring.
Step 32
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use ceramic grease.
Step 33
Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.

After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 34
Install the wheel.

Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts on the car. Toyota RAV4 II
Step 35
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
Step 36
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 103 Nm torque.
Step 37
Remove the jacks and chocks.
Replacement: brake discs – Toyota RAV4 II. AUTODOC recommends:
Without starting the engine, press the brake pedal several times until you feel significant resistance.Check the brake fluid level in the expansion tank and refill if necessary.
Step 38
Tighten the brake fluid reservoir cap. Close the hood.
