How to change rear brake pads on TOYOTA RAV4 II [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]

Replacement: brake pads – Toyota RAV4 II. AUTODOC experts recommend:
- Perform the replacement of brake pads in complete set for each axis. This provides effective braking.
- The replacement procedure is identical for all brake pads on the same axle.
- Please note: all work on the car – Toyota RAV4 II – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1
Open the bonnet. Unscrew the brake fluid reservoir cap. - Step 2Secure the wheels with chocks.Step 3
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19. - Step 4
Raise the car.Replacement: brake pads – Toyota RAV4 II. Tip from AUTODOC:If you are using a jack, make sure it rests on a flat surface without any unevenness.Be sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands. - Step 5
Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Toyota RAV4 II - Step 6
Remove the wheel. - Step 7
Detach the brake caliper retaining spring. Use a crowbar. - Step 8
Remove the retaining springs of the brake pads. Use a flat screwdriver. - Step 9
Clean the brake pad guide pins. Use a wire brush. Use a brake cleaner.AUTODOC recommends:Replacement: brake pads – Toyota RAV4 II. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes. - Step 10
Remove the brake pad guide pins. Use a pin punch. Use a hammer. - Step 11
Remove the brake pads.AUTODOC recommends:Measure the brake disc thickness. Upon reaching the wear limit the part must be replaced. - Step 12Clean the brake caliper fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Step 13Unscrew the brake caliper fasteners. Use a drive socket #14. Use a ratchet wrench.Step 14Remove the brake caliper.Replacement: brake pads – Toyota RAV4 II. AUTODOC experts recommend:Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur.Step 15
Treat the brake caliper pistons. Use a nylon cleaning brush. Use a brake cleaner.AUTODOC recommends:After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.Check the brake caliper bracket, brake caliper guide pins and boots. Clean them. Replace, if necessary. - Step 16
Wind back the brake caliper pistons. Use brake caliper wind back tool. - Step 17
Install the brake caliper and fix it. - Step 18
Tighten the brake caliper fasteners. Use a drive socket #14. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 44 Nm torque. - Step 19
Remove the anti-squeal shims from the old brake pads.Replacement: brake pads – Toyota RAV4 II. AUTODOC recommends:Check the condition of the anti-squeal shims. Replace if necessary. - Step 20
Clean the anti-squeal shims and brake pad fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use a brake cleaner.AUTODOC recommends:Replacement: brake pads – Toyota RAV4 II. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
