How to change rear shock absorber on FORD FOCUS (DAW) [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]
All the parts you need to replace – Shock Absorber for FOCUS (DAW, DBW) and other FORD models
Replacement: shock absorbers – Ford Focus DAW. AUTODOC recommends:
Both shock absorbers of the rear suspension should be replaced simultaneously.
The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right shock absorbers of the rear suspension.
Replacement: shock absorbers – Ford Focus DAW. Use the following procedure:
Carry out replacement in the following order:
Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2
Open the boot lid.
Step 3
Move the folding shelf and detach it from the retainers. By doing this, you will get access to the side trim plastic panels.
Step 4
Fold down the backrests of the rear seats.
Step 5
Remove the boot front lower lining.
Step 6
Unscrew the fasteners of the side plastic trim panel. Use a Phillips screwdriver.
Step 7
Remove the clips from the plastic side panel. Use a clip removal tool.
Step 8
Remove the side plastic cover.
Step 9
Detach the boot side lining.
Step 10
Clean the fasteners of the shock absorber upper mount. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 11
Loosen the upper fastener of the shock absorber. Use a combination spanner #13. Use a shock absorber socket №DD5,2. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 12
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
Step 13
Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.
Step 14
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Ford Focus DAW
Step 15
Remove the wheel.
Step 16
Clean the shock absorber fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 17
Unscrew the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #15. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 18
Unscrew the upper fastener of the shock absorber.
AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Hold the shock absorber while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Ford Focus DAW
Step 19
Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 20
Remove the shock absorber.
Step 21
Remove the shock absorber mount, boot and bump stop.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: shock absorbers – Ford Focus DAW. Carefully inspect the mount, the boot, and the bump stop of the shock absorber. Replace if necessary.
Step 22
Clean the shock absorber mounting seats. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Replacement: shock absorbers – Ford Focus DAW. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
Before installing a new shock absorber you should pump it manually 3-5 times.
Step 23
Install the mount, boot and bump stop onto a new shock absorber.
Step 24
Place the shock absorber in the wheel arch and fasten it.
AUTODOC recommends:
Ford Focus DAW – To avoid injury, hold the shock absorber while screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 25
Install the fastening bolt.
Step 26
Screw in the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #15. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 27
Support the arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 28
Tighten the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #15. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 85 Nm torque.
Step 29
Remove the support from under the arm.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: shock absorbers – Ford Focus DAW. Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms.
Step 30
Treat the shock absorber fasteners. Use copper grease.
Step 31
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 32
Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: shock absorbers – Ford Focus DAW. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 33
Install the wheel.
AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts on the car. Ford Focus DAW
Step 34
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
Step 35
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 110 Nm torque.
Step 36
Remove the jacks and chocks.
Step 37
Tighten the top shock absorber fastening. Use a combination spanner #13. Use a shock absorber socket №DD5,2. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 18 Nm torque.
Step 38
Treat the shock absorber fasteners. Use copper grease.
Step 39
Attach the side lining of the boot.
Step 40
Install the side plastic panel.
Step 41
Reinstall the clips of the plastic side panel.
Step 42
Screw the fasteners of the side plastic trim panel. Use a Phillips screwdriver.
Step 43
Return the seat to its original position.
Step 44
Install the boot front lower lining.
Step 45
Install the folding shelf to its mounting seat.
Step 46
Close the lid of the luggage compartment.
