How to change rear springs on FORD FOCUS (DAW) [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]
All the parts you need to replace – Springs for FOCUS (DAW, DBW) and other FORD models
Replacement: coil springs – Ford Focus DAW. AUTODOC recommends:
Both coil springs of the rear suspension should be replaced simultaneously.
The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right coil springs of the rear suspension.
Please note: all work on the car – Ford Focus DAW – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
Step 3
Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.
Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Ford Focus DAW
Step 5
Remove the wheel.
Step 6
Clean all joints of the arm. Clean the stabiliser link fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 7
Unscrew the fastener connecting the control arm to the rear knuckle. Use a drive socket #15. Use a tap wrench.
Step 8
Unscrew the fastener connecting the stabilizer link to the stabilizer bar. Use a combination spanner #13. Use a drive socket #13. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 9
Remove the stabilizer rod.
Step 10
Make a mark on the camber adjustment bolt.
Step 11
Unscrew the arm fastening to the beam. Use a combination spanner #19. Use a drive socket #18. Use a tap wrench.
Step 12
Support the arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 13
Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 14
Remove the support from under the arm. Use a crowbar.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: coil springs – Ford Focus DAW. Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms.
Step 15
Remove the spring.
Step 16
Clean the coil spring mounting seats. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 17
Install the coil spring together with the rubber mounts into the mounting seats.
Step 18
Support the arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack. Use a crowbar.
Step 19
Install the fastening bolt. Use a combination spanner #19.
Step 20
Remove the support from under the arm.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: coil springs – Ford Focus DAW. Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms.
Step 21
Adjust the position of the alignment bolt according to the mark. Use a combination spanner #19. Use a combination spanner #18.
Step 22
Support the arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 23
Tighten the fastener connecting the control arm to the rear subframe.
Use a combination spanner #19. Use a drive socket #18. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 115 Nm torque.
Step 24
Tighten the fastener connecting the suspension arm to the rear knuckle. Use a drive socket #15. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 85 Nm torque.
Step 25
Remove the support from under the arm.
Replacement: coil springs – Ford Focus DAW. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
Lower the hydraulic transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging assemblies and mechanisms.
Step 26
Clean the mounting seats of the stabiliser link. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 27
Ιnstall the transverse stabilizer link.
Step 28
Tighten the fastener connecting the stabilizer link to the stabilizer bar. Use a combination spanner #13. Use a drive socket #13. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 15 Nm torque.
Step 29
Treat all joints of the arm. Treat all joints of the stabiliser link. Use copper grease.
Step 30
Clean the wheel rim mounting seat. Use a wire brush.
Step 31
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 32
Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: coil springs – Ford Focus DAW. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 33
Install the wheel.

Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts on the car. Ford Focus DAW
Step 34
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
Step 35
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 110 Nm torque.
Step 36
Remove the jacks and chocks.
