How to change rear springs / rear coil springs on TOYOTA PRIUS 2 (NHW20) [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]

Replacement: coil springs – Toyota Prius 2. AUTODOC experts recommend:
- Both coil springs of the rear suspension should be replaced simultaneously.
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right coil springs of the rear suspension.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: coil springs – Toyota Prius 2. Use the following procedure:
- Step 1
Open the boot lid. - Step 2
Move the folding shelf and detach it from the retainers. By doing this, you will get access to the side trim plastic panels. - Step 3
Raise the lower lining of the boot. - Step 4
Remove the clips of the boot front lower lining. Use a clip removal tool. - Step 5
Remove the boot front lower lining. - Step 6
Fold down the backrests of the rear seats. - Step 7
Unscrew the fastener of the central protective plastic panel. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 8
Lift up the central plastic cover (the battery cover). - Step 9
Detach the boot side lining. - Step 10Remove the side plastic cover.Step 11
Unscrew the fasteners of the side plastic trim panel. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 12
Remove the seat belt trim cover. - Step 13
Unscrew the fasteners of the side plastic trim panel. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 14
Remove the plastic door sill plate. - Step 15
Unscrew the fastener and remove the boot side sound insulation. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 16
Detach the heater air hose. - Step 17
Loosen the upper fastener of the shock strut mount. Use a drive socket #14. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 18
Secure the wheels with chocks. - Step 19
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #21. - Step 20
Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports. - Step 21
Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Important! Hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Toyota Prius 2 - Step 22
Remove the wheel. - Step 23
Clean the shock strut fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 24
Unscrew the lower fastener of the shock absorber strut. Use a drive socket #19. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 25
Unscrew the top fastening of the shock strut mount. Use a drive socket #14. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 26
Remove the suspension strut. Use a crowbar. - Step 27
Set the shock absorber strut on the spring compressor tool.Replacement: coil springs – Toyota Prius 2. Tip from AUTODOC experts:Note that when using a spring compressor, spring coils need to be securely gripped, compressing the spring on the opposite sides.Ensure the correct position of the spring in the retainer.Make sure that the spring coils tightly entered the lock handles. - Step 28
Compress the spring. - Step 29
Treat the shock strut rod. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 30
Remove the strut piston rod nut. Use a drive socket #17. Use HEX No.H6. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 31
Remove the top strut mount. - Step 32
Remove the shock absorber dust cap and the bump stop. - Step 33
Release the coil spring. - Step 34
Remove the spring.AUTODOC recommends:Replacement: coil springs – Toyota Prius 2. Carefully inspect the mount, the boot, and the bump stop of the shock absorber. Replace if necessary. - Step 35
Install the spring on the shock absorber. - Step 36
Compress the spring. - Step 37
Install the boot and a bump stop onto the shock absorber. - Step 38
Install the upper strut mount and the strut mount bearing. - Step 39
Tighten the shock strut piston rod nut. Use a drive socket #17. Use HEX No.H6. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 56 Nm torque.Replacement: coil springs – Toyota Prius 2. Professionals recommend:Check to make sure the spring is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment. - Step 40
Treat the shock strut rod. Use copper grease. - Step 41
Decompress the spring.
