How to change rear springs / rear coil springs on TOYOTA RAV 4 3 (XA30) [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]
All the parts you need to replace – Springs for RAV 4 III (ACA3_, ACE_, ALA3_, GSA3_, ZSA3_) and other TOYOTA models
Replacement: coil springs – Toyota RAV4 III. Tip from AUTODOC:
Both coil springs of the rear suspension should be replaced simultaneously.
The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right coil springs of the rear suspension.
All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: coil springs – Toyota RAV4 III. Take the following steps:
Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #21.
Step 3
Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.
Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Toyota RAV4 III
Step 5
Remove the wheel.
Step 6
Clean all joints of the arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 7
Support the arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 8
Unscrew the rear transverse arm fastener to the stub axle. Use a drive socket #17.
Step 9
Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 10
Clean the stabiliser link fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 11
Unscrew the fastener connecting the stabilizer bar with the control arm. Use a drive socket #17.
Step 12
Remove the support from under the arm.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: coil springs – Toyota RAV4 III. Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms.
Step 13
Detach the suspension arm from the rear knuckle. Remove the spring.
Replacement: coil springs – Toyota RAV4 III. Professionals recommend:
Inspect the rubber mounts of the suspension spring. Replace if necessary.
Step 14
Clean the coil spring mounting seats. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 15
Install the coil spring together with the rubber mounts into the mounting seats.
Step 16
Support the arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 17
Clean the mounting seats and the thread of the suspension arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 18
Attach the suspension arm to the rear knuckle.
Step 19
Install the fastening bolt. Use a crowbar.
Step 20
Raise the hydraulic transmission jack by 10-15 cm.
Step 21
Tighten the control arm fastener to the stub axle. Use a drive socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 90 Nm torque.
Step 22
Remove the support from under the arm.
AUTODOC recommends:
Toyota RAV4 III – Do not lower the transmission jack sharply to avoid damaging components and mechanisms of the car.
Step 23
Tighten the fastener connecting the stabilizer bar with the control arm. Use a combination spanner #17. Use a drive socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 30 Nm torque.
Step 24
Treat all joints of the arm. Use copper grease.
Step 25
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 26
Clean the brake disk surface. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 27
Install the wheel.
AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts. Toyota RAV4 III
Step 28
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #21.
Step 29
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 103 nm torque.
Step 30
Remove the jacks and chocks.
