Replacement: ignition coil – VW BORA (1J2). Tip from AUTODOC experts:
Follow the terms, recommendations and requirements of the part operation provided by the manufacturer.
Warning! Shut down the engine before starting any work – VW BORA (1J2).
Carry out replacement in the following order:
Step 1
Open the hood.
Step 2
Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.
Step 3
Detach the crankcase ventilation hose from the engine cover at the left.
Step 4
Remove the engine cover.
Step 5
Cover the throttle body with a microfibre towel to prevent dust and dirt from getting into the system.
Step 6
Detach the crankcase ventilation hose from the oil filler neck.
Step 7
Unscrew the oil filler neck. Remove the oil filler neck.
Step 8
Cover the oil filler opening with a microfibre towel to prevent dirt and foreign objects from getting into the system.
Step 9
Undo the plastic locking tabs of the ignition coil connector. Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 10
Pry up the ignition coil. Use a crowbar. Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 11
Take out the ignition coil from the spark plug well.
Replacement: ignition coil – VW BORA (1J2). AUTODOC recommends:
Remember the sequence of steps for ignition coil demounting.
Step 12
Detach the connector from the ignition coil.
Step 13
Treat the ignition coil connector with electronic spray. The spray will protect the electrical contacts from corrosion, oxidation, and will reduce the contact resistance.
Step 14
Treat the ignition coil tip. Use high-temperature grease. Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 15
Plug in the ignition coil connector.
Step 16
Install the new ignition coil to the spark plug well. Make sure you hear a click indicating that it is locked in place.
Step 17
Lock the connector.
Step 18
Remove the microfibre towel from the oil filler opening.
Step 19
Install the oil filler neck. Screw in the oil filler neck.
Step 20
Attach the crankcase ventilation hose to the oil filler neck.
Step 21
Remove the microfibre towel from the throttle body.
Step 22
Install the engine cover and secure it. Make sure you hear a click indicating that it is locked in place.
Replacement: ignition coil – VW BORA (1J2). Tip:
Make sure the engine cover is properly seated. It should not be displaced with respect to the guiding fasteners and the throttle body air intake hose.
Step 23
Attach the crankcase ventilation hose to the engine cover at the left.
Step 24
Run the engine for a few minutes. This is necessary in order to make sure that the component operates properly.
Step 25
Shut off the engine.
Step 26
Remove the fender protection cover.
Step 27
Close the hood.
