Replacement: strut mount – VW Sharan 1. Tip from AUTODOC:

The replacement procedure is identical for the mounts of the left and right shock struts of the front suspension.
All mounts of the front shock struts should be replaced simultaneously.
Please note: all work on the car – VW Sharan 1 – should be done with the engine switched off.

Carry out replacement in the following order:

Step 1

Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2

Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.

Step 3

Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.

Step 4

Unscrew the wheel bolts.

AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. VW Sharan 1
Step 5

Remove the wheel.
Step 6

Clean the stabiliser link fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.

Step 7

Unscrew the fastener connecting the stabilizer link to the shock strut. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #19. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 8

Remove the stabilizer rod.
Step 9

Clean the fastener of the driveshaft. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.

Step 10

Unscrew the fastener connecting the drive shaft to the wheel hub. Use a drive socket #27. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 11

Remove the fastening bolt.

Step 12

Clean the fastener connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.

Step 13

Unscrew the end fastening nut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #19. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 14

Disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller.
Step 15

Clean the fasteners connecting the ball joint to the suspension control arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.

Step 16

Unscrew the fastener connecting the ball joint to the suspension control arm. Use a drive socket #22. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 17

Disconnect the spherical joint from the arm. Use a ball joint puller.
Step 18

Remove the drive shaft.

Replacement: strut mount – VW Sharan 1. Tip from AUTODOC:
Make sure that the drive shaft is not unloaded (when the car is jacked).
Step 19

Clean the fasteners connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 20

Unscrew the lower fastener connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 21

Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 22

Release the lower fastener connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a flat metal-working chisel. Use a hammer.
Step 23

Disconnect the steering knuckle from the shock absorber strut.

Replacement: strut mount – VW Sharan 1. AUTODOC recommends:
Make sure that the steering knuckle is supported.
Step 24

Lower the car.

Step 25

Open the bonnet.
Step 26

Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.
Step 27

Unscrew the fasteners of the windscreen wiper linkage panel. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 28

Remove the panel assembled with the windscreen wiper linkage.
Step 29

Clean the fasteners of the shock strut upper mount. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.

Step 30

Unscrew the top fastening of the shock strut mount. Use a drive socket #19. Use HEX No.H6. Use a ratchet wrench.

AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Hold the suspension strut while unscrewing the fastening bolts. VW Sharan 1
Step 31

Remove the suspension strut.
Step 32

Remove the top strut mount.

Replacement: strut mount – VW Sharan 1. Professionals recommend:
Examine the shock absorber dust cap and the bump stop. Replace them if necessary.
Step 33

Clean the mounting seat of the shock strut mount. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.

Step 34

Install a new top shock strut mount.
Step 35

Install the shock strut into the wheel arch.
Step 36

Screw the top fastening of the shock strut mount.

AUTODOC recommends:
VW Sharan 1 – To avoid injury, hold the suspension strut while screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 37

Tighten the upper fastener of the shock absorber strut mount. Use a drive socket #19. Use HEX No.H6. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 60 Nm torque.
Step 38

Install the panel assembled with the windscreen wiper linkage.
Step 39

Screw in the fasteners of the windscreen wiper linkage panel. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 40

Remove the fender protection cover.

Step 41

Close the hood.
Step 42

Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
Step 43

Release the lower fastener connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a flat metal-working chisel. Use a hammer.

Step 44

Fix the shock absorber strut on the steering knuckle.
Step 45

Attach the ball joint to the control arm.

Step 46

Tighten the ball joint fastener. Use a drive socket #22. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 30 Nm torque.+90°

AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Be sure to use new fasteners.
Step 47

Clean the splines of the drive shaft CV joint. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 48

Mount the drive shaft into the wheel hub.
Step 49

Release the lower fastener connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a flat metal-working chisel. Use a hammer.

Step 50

Install the fastening bolt.

Step 51

Tighten the lower fasteners connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #18. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 110 Nm torque.
Step 52

Treat the shock strut fasteners. Use copper grease.
Step 53

Ιnstall the transverse stabilizer link.
Step 54

Tighten the fastener connecting the stabilizer link to the shock strut. Use a drive socket #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 62 Nm torque.
Step 55

Treat all joints of the stabiliser link. Use copper grease.
Step 56

Install and tighten the drive shaft bolt.

Step 57

Tighten the bolt connecting the drive shaft to the wheel hub. Use a drive socket #27. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 150 Nm torque.+90°

AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Be sure to use new fasteners.
Step 58

Connect the tie rod end to the steering knuckle.

Step 59

Tighten the fastening nut connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 30 Nm torque.+90°

AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Be sure to use new fasteners.
Step 60

Treat the fastener connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use copper grease.
Step 61

Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 62

Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.

AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: strut mount – VW Sharan 1. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 63

Install the wheel.

AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts on the car. VW Sharan 1
Step 64

Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 65

Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 170 nm torque.
Step 66

Remove the jacks and chocks.
