How to change a front strut mount on VW SHARAN 7M [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]

Replacement: strut mount – VW Sharan 1. Tip from AUTODOC:
- The replacement procedure is identical for the mounts of the left and right shock struts of the front suspension.
- All mounts of the front shock struts should be replaced simultaneously.
- Please note: all work on the car – VW Sharan 1 – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks. - Step 2Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.Step 3Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. VW Sharan 1 - Step 5
Remove the wheel. - Step 6Clean the stabiliser link fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Step 7
Unscrew the fastener connecting the stabilizer link to the shock strut. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #19. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 8
Remove the stabilizer rod. - Step 9Clean the fastener of the driveshaft. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Step 10
Unscrew the fastener connecting the drive shaft to the wheel hub. Use a drive socket #27. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 11Remove the fastening bolt.Step 12Clean the fastener connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Step 13
Unscrew the end fastening nut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #19. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 14
Disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller. - Step 15Clean the fasteners connecting the ball joint to the suspension control arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Step 16
Unscrew the fastener connecting the ball joint to the suspension control arm. Use a drive socket #22. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 17
Disconnect the spherical joint from the arm. Use a ball joint puller. - Step 18
Remove the drive shaft.Replacement: strut mount – VW Sharan 1. Tip from AUTODOC:Make sure that the drive shaft is not unloaded (when the car is jacked). - Step 19
Clean the fasteners connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 20
Unscrew the lower fastener connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 21
Remove the fastening bolt. - Step 22
Release the lower fastener connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a flat metal-working chisel. Use a hammer. - Step 23
Disconnect the steering knuckle from the shock absorber strut.Replacement: strut mount – VW Sharan 1. AUTODOC recommends:Make sure that the steering knuckle is supported. - Step 24Lower the car.Step 25
Open the bonnet. - Step 26
Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car. - Step 27
Unscrew the fasteners of the windscreen wiper linkage panel. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 28
Remove the panel assembled with the windscreen wiper linkage. - Step 29Clean the fasteners of the shock strut upper mount. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Step 30
Unscrew the top fastening of the shock strut mount. Use a drive socket #19. Use HEX No.H6. Use a ratchet wrench.AUTODOC recommends:Important! Hold the suspension strut while unscrewing the fastening bolts. VW Sharan 1 - Step 31
Remove the suspension strut. - Step 32
Remove the top strut mount.Replacement: strut mount – VW Sharan 1. Professionals recommend:Examine the shock absorber dust cap and the bump stop. Replace them if necessary. - Step 33Clean the mounting seat of the shock strut mount. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Step 34
Install a new top shock strut mount. - Step 35
Install the shock strut into the wheel arch. - Step 36Screw the top fastening of the shock strut mount.AUTODOC recommends:VW Sharan 1 – To avoid injury, hold the suspension strut while screwing in the fastening bolts.Step 37
Tighten the upper fastener of the shock absorber strut mount. Use a drive socket #19. Use HEX No.H6. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 60 Nm torque. - Step 38
Install the panel assembled with the windscreen wiper linkage. - Step 39
Screw in the fasteners of the windscreen wiper linkage panel. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
