Replacement: strut mount – FORD MONDEO II (BAP). Professionals recommend:
- The replacement procedure is identical for the mounts of the left and right shock struts of the front suspension.
- All mounts of the front shock struts should be replaced simultaneously.
- Please note: all work on the car – FORD MONDEO II (BAP) – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Secure the wheels with chocks.
- Step 2Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
- Step 3Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.Step 4Unscrew the wheel bolts.Replacement: strut mount – FORD MONDEO II (BAP). AUTODOC experts recommend:To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
- Step 5Remove the wheel.
- Step 6Detach the ABS sensor connector. Use a flat screwdriver.
- Step 7Clean the fasteners connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Step 8Clean the stabiliser link fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 9Unscrew the fastener connecting the stabilizer link to the shock strut. Use a combination spanner #17. Use HEX No.H5. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 10Remove the bracket from the shock absorber strut.
- Step 11Remove the stabilizer rod.
- Step 12Clean the fastener of the driveshaft. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 13Unscrew the fastener connecting the drive shaft to the wheel hub. Use a drive socket #32. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 14Remove the fastening nut.
- Step 15Clean the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 16Unscrew the caliper bracket fastening. Use a drive socket #15. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 17Remove the fastening bolts (2 pieces).Step 18Remove the brake caliper together with its bracket.Replacement: strut mount – FORD MONDEO II (BAP). AUTODOC recommends:Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur.Check the brake caliper bracket, brake caliper guide pins and boots. Clean them. Replace, if necessary.
- Step 19Detach the brake hose from the shock strut. Use a flat screwdriver.
- Step 20Remove the brake disc.
- Step 21Clean the fastener connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 22Unscrew the end fastening nut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #15. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 23Disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller.
- Step 24Clean the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 25Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle. Use Torx T55. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 26Remove the fastening bolt.Step 27Release the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a flat metal-working chisel. Use a hammer.Step 28Disconnect the ball joint from the steering knuckle. Use a crowbar. Use a hammer.
- Step 29Detach the driveshaft from the steering knuckle. Use a pin punch. Use a hammer.Replacement: strut mount – FORD MONDEO II (BAP). Tip from AUTODOC:Make sure that the drive shaft is not unloaded (when the car is jacked).
- Step 30Lower the car.Step 31Open the bonnet.Step 32Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.Step 33Remove the protective cap of the shock absorber mount. Use a flat screwdriver.
- Step 34Clean the fasteners of the shock strut upper mount. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Step 35Unscrew the top fastening of the shock strut mount. Use a drive socket #13. Use a ratchet wrench.Replacement: strut mount – FORD MONDEO II (BAP). Tip:To avoid injuries, hold the shock strut when undoing the fastening bolts.
- Step 36Remove the suspension strut.
- Step 37Set the shock absorber strut on the spring compressor tool.AUTODOC recommends:Note that when using a spring compressor, spring coils need to be securely gripped, compressing the spring on the opposite sides.Ensure the correct position of the spring in the retainer.Make sure that the spring coils tightly entered the lock handles.
- Step 38Compress the spring.Step 39Treat the shock strut rod. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 40Remove the strut piston rod nut. Use a combination spanner #18. Use HEX No.H6. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 41Remove the shock absorber mount, boot and bump stop. Use a flat screwdriver.Replacement: strut mount – FORD MONDEO II (BAP). Tip:Examine the shock absorber dust cap and the bump stop. Replace them if necessary.
- Step 42Install the new mount, boot, and bump stop on the shock absorber. Use a flat screwdriver. Use HEX No.H6.
- Step 43Tighten the shock strut piston rod nut. Use a combination spanner #18. Use HEX No.H6. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 58 Nm torque.Replacement: strut mount – FORD MONDEO II (BAP). Professionals recommend:Check to make sure the spring is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment.
- Step 44Decompress the spring.Step 45Remove the assembled shock strut.
- Step 46Install the shock strut into the wheel arch.
- Step 47Screw the top fastening of the shock strut mount.AUTODOC recommends:Important! Hold the suspension strut while screwing in the fastening bolts. FORD MONDEO II (BAP)
