Replace the brake disks on the car Peugeot 406 saloon in complete set for each axis. Regardless of the state of components. This will ensure even braking.
The replacement procedure is identical for both brake disks on the same axle.
When changing the brake discs, always replace the brake pads.
Please note: all work on the car – Peugeot 406 saloon – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
Step 1
Open the bonnet. Unscrew the brake fluid reservoir cap.
Step 2
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 3
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
Step 4
Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
Step 5
Unscrew the wheel bolts.

Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Peugeot 406 saloon
Step 6
Remove the wheel.
Step 7
Clean the brake caliper fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 8
Unscrew the brake caliper fasteners. Use a combination spanner #13. Use a combination spanner #17.
Step 9
Remove the fastening bolts (2 pieces).
Step 10
Disconnect the brake pad wear sensor plug.
Step 11
Disconnect the brake pad wear sensor wire.
Step 12
Spread the brake pads. Use a crowbar.
Step 13
Remove the brake caliper. Use a crowbar.
Replacement: brake discs – Peugeot 406 saloon. Tip from AUTODOC:
Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur. Check the brake caliper bracket, brake caliper guide pins and boots. Clean them. Replace, if necessary.
Step 14
Remove the brake pads. Use a crowbar.
Step 15
Clean the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 16
Unscrew the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use Torx T55. Use a tap wrench. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 17
Remove the fastening bolts (2 pieces).
Step 18
Remove the caliper bracket.
Step 19
Clean the brake disc fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 20
Unscrew the brake disc fasteners. Use Torx T30. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 21
Remove the brake disc.
Step 22
Clean the hub. Use a wire brush. Treat the contacting surface. Use copper grease.
Step 23
Install the brake disc.
Step 24
Tighten the brake disc fasteners. Use a Phillips screwdriver. Use Torx T30. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 10 Nm torque.
Step 25
Remove the guide pins from the brake caliper.
Step 26
Clean the brake caliper guide pins.
Step 27
Treat the brake caliper guide pins. Use the brake caliper guide pin grease.
Step 28
Screw in the guide pins.
Step 29
Clean the brake caliper bracket from dirt and dust. Use a wire brush. Use a brake cleaner.
Step 30
Clean the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 31
Treat the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a sealant.
Step 32
Install the brake caliper bracket.
Step 33
Install the fastening bolts (2 pieces).
Step 34
Tighten the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use Torx T55. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 120 Nm torque.
Step 35
Install the brake pads.
Step 36
Treat the brake caliper piston. Use a brake cleaner.
Step 37
Press in the brake caliper piston. Use brake caliper wind back tool.
Step 38
Install the brake caliper and fix it.
Step 39
Install the fastening bolts (2 pieces).
Step 40
Tighten the brake caliper fasteners. Use a combination spanner #13. Use a combination spanner #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 30 Nm torque.
Step 41
Connect the brake pad wear sensor wire.
Step 42
Connect the brake pad wear sensor plug.
Step 43
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use high-temperature ceramic grease.
Step 44
Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: brake discs – Peugeot 406 saloon. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 45
Install the wheel.

Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
Step 47
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 90 nm torque.
