Steptronic is a function of manual gears shifting mostly on automatic gearboxes with torque converters, installed on BMW, MG, MINI and Rover vehicles. Recently it is also met on semi-automatic transmissions. It appeared in the mid 90s. In order to switch to manual mode you need to move the lever into “S” or “M/S” position. Moving it forward or backward you can shift up or down. In addition, many car versions feature buttons for engaging manual transmission control mode, mounted on the steering wheel.
