How to change front springs / front coil springs on TOYOTA RAV 4 3 (XA30) [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]

Replacement: coil springs – Toyota RAV4 III. Professionals recommend:
- Both coil springs of the front suspension should be replaced simultaneously.
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right coil springs of the front suspension.
- Warning! Shut down the engine before starting any work – Toyota RAV4 III.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Open the bonnet.
- Step 2Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.
- Step 3Clean the fasteners of the shock strut upper mount. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 4Loosen the upper fastener of the shock strut mount. Use a drive socket #14. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 5Secure the wheels with chocks.
- Step 6Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #21.
- Step 7Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
- Step 8Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Important! Hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Toyota RAV4 III
- Step 9Remove the wheel.
- Step 10Clean the stabiliser link fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 11Unscrew the nut and remove the stabilizer rod from the shock strut. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 12Clean the fasteners connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 13Unscrew the brake hose fastening bracket from the shock strut. Use a drive socket #14.
- Step 14Disconnect the wiring and the brake hose from the bracket on the shock strut.
- Step 15Unscrew the lower fastener connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #22. Use a drive socket #22. Use a ratchet wrench. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 16Prop up the steering knuckle. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
- Step 17Disconnect the steering knuckle from the shock absorber strut.
- Step 18Unscrew the top fastening of the shock strut mount.AUTODOC recommends:Toyota RAV4 III – To avoid injury, hold the suspension strut while unscrewing the fastening bolts.
- Step 19Remove the suspension strut.
- Step 20Set the shock absorber strut on the spring compressor tool.Replacement: coil springs – Toyota RAV4 III. AUTODOC experts recommend:Note that when using a spring compressor, spring coils need to be securely gripped, compressing the spring on the opposite sides.Ensure the correct position of the spring in the retainer.Make sure that the spring coils tightly entered the lock handles.
- Step 21Compress the spring.
- Step 22Remove the shock strut mount cap.
- Step 23Treat the shock strut rod. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 24Remove the strut piston rod nut. Use a universal pulley holder. Use a drive socket #19. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 25Remove the top strut mount.
- Step 26Remove the shock absorber dust cap and the bump stop.AUTODOC recommends:Replacement: coil springs – Toyota RAV4 III. Carefully inspect the mount, the boot, and the bump stop of the shock absorber. Replace if necessary.
- Step 27Release the coil spring.
- Step 28Remove the spring.
- Step 29Install the spring on the shock absorber.
- Step 30Compress the spring.Step 31Install the boot and a bump stop onto the shock absorber.
- Step 32Install the upper strut mount and the strut mount bearing.
- Step 33Tighten the shock strut piston rod nut. Use a universal pulley holder. Use a drive socket #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 47 Nm torque.Replacement: coil springs – Toyota RAV4 III. AUTODOC recommends:Check to make sure the spring is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment.
- Step 34Decompress the spring.
- Step 35Treat the shock strut rod. Use copper grease.
