- Do not re-use the bearing assembly of your VW Sharan Kastenwagen (7M) car.
- The wheel hub bearing replacement procedure is identical for both wheels on the same axle.
- Please note: all work on the car – VW Sharan Kastenwagen (7M) – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Open the bonnet. Unscrew the brake fluid reservoir cap.Step 2Secure the wheels with chocks.Step 3
Loosen the wheel hub fastener. Use a drive socket #24. Use a tap wrench. - Step 4
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19. - Step 5
Raise the car.Replacement: wheel bearing – VW Sharan Kastenwagen (7M). AUTODOC experts recommend:If you are using a jack, make sure it rests on a flat surface without any unevenness.Be sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands. - Step 6
Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. VW Sharan Kastenwagen (7M) - Step 7
Remove the wheel. - Step 8
Clean the brake pad wear sensor plug. Use a nylon cleaning brush. Use all-purpose cleaning spray. - Step 9
Detach the connector of the brake pad wear sensor. - Step 10
Clean the brake caliper retaining spring. Use a wire brush. Use a brake cleaner.AUTODOC recommends:After applying the spray, wait a few minutes. - Step 11
Detach the brake caliper retaining spring. Use a crowbar. - Step 12
Clean the brake caliper fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use a brake cleaner.AUTODOC recommends:After applying the spray, wait a few minutes. - Step 13
Unscrew the brake caliper fasteners. Use a combination spanner #15. Use a drive socket #13. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 14
Remove the fastening bolts. - Step 15
Remove the brake caliper. Use a crowbar.Replacement: wheel bearing – VW Sharan Kastenwagen (7M). Professionals recommend:Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur. - Step 16
Remove the brake pads. - Step 17
Clean the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 18
Unscrew the caliper bracket fastening. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 19
Remove the fastening bolts. - Step 20
Remove the caliper bracket. - Step 21
Clean the brake disc fastener. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 22
Unscrew the brake disc fastening. Use HEX No.H6. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 23
Remove the fastening bolt. - Step 24
Remove the brake disc. - Step 25
Unscrew the wheel hub fastener. Use a combination spanner #24. Use a drive socket #24. Use a tap wrench. - Step 26
Remove the fastening bolt. - Step 27
Remove the spring washer with a reluctor ring. - Step 28
Remove the wheel hub. Use the hub slide hammer puller. - Step 29
Clean the wheel hub bearing retaining ring. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 30
Remove the wheel hub bearing retaining ring. Use circlip pliers. - Step 31
Press out the wheel hub bearing. Use a bearing driver tool set. - Step 32
Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 33
Press the new bearing into the rear knuckle. Use a bearing driver tool set.Replacement: wheel bearing – VW Sharan Kastenwagen (7M). AUTODOC recommends:Check to make sure the wheel hub bearing is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment. Stop pressing on the surface of the bearing immediately after it has been fitted into its mounting seat. - Step 34
Install the wheel hub bearing retaining ring. Use circlip pliers. - Step 35
Dismantle the inner bearing race that is remaining on the hub. Bush and bearing driver set. Use a bearing separator. - Step 36
Clean the wheel hub mounting seat. - Step 37
Press the hub into the rear knuckle. Use a bearing driver tool set. - Step 38
Install the spring washer with a reluctor ring. - Step 39Install the fastening bolt.Step 40
Screw in the wheel hub fastener. Use a combination spanner #24. Use a drive socket #24. Use a ratchet wrench.
