Replacement: wheel bearing – HONDA CITY Saloon (GM). AUTODOC recommends:
- Do not re-use the bearing assembly of your HONDA CITY Saloon (GM) car.
- The wheel hub bearing replacement procedure is identical for both wheels on the same axle.
- Please note: all work on the car – HONDA CITY Saloon (GM) – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Open the bonnet. Unscrew the brake fluid reservoir cap.Step 2Secure the wheels with chocks.
- Step 3Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
- Step 4Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.Step 5Unscrew the wheel bolts.Replacement: wheel bearing – HONDA CITY Saloon (GM). Tip:To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
- Step 6Remove the wheel.
- Step 7Clean the brake caliper fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 8Detach the parking brake cable from the bracket on the brake caliper. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench. Use a crowbar.
- Step 9Unscrew the brake caliper fastening. Use a combination spanner #12. Use a combination spanner #17.
- Step 10Remove the brake caliper.Replacement: wheel bearing – HONDA CITY Saloon (GM). AUTODOC experts recommend:Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur. Check the brake caliper bracket, brake caliper guide pins and boots. Clean them. Replace, if necessary.
- Step 11Remove the brake pads.
- Step 12Clean the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 13Unscrew the caliper bracket fastening. Use a drive socket #14. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 14Remove the caliper bracket.
- Step 15Clean the brake disc fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 16Unscrew the brake disc fastening. Use a Phillips screwdriver. Use an impact screwdriver.
- Step 17Remove the brake disc.
- Step 18Remove the hub bearing protection cap. Use a hammer. Use a crowbar.AUTODOC recommends:Some cars are not equipped with wheel hub caps.
- Step 19Unstake the wheel hub retaining nut. Use a flat metal-working chisel. Use a hammer.
- Step 20Unscrew the wheel hub axle nut. Use a drive socket #32. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 21Remove the hub and the bearing together, since they are a sealed unit.
- Step 22Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
- Step 23Install the new wheel hub with a bearing.
- Step 24Tighten the hub. Use a drive socket #32. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 181 Nm torque.Replacement: wheel bearing – HONDA CITY Saloon (GM). Tip from AUTODOC:The wheel bearing unit must not tilt on the axle pin.
- Step 25Restake the wheel hub retaining nut. Use a flat metal-working chisel. Use a hammer.
