Replacement: rear suspension lower trailing arm – TOYOTA FJ CRUISER (GSJ1_). AUTODOC recommends:
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right lower control arms.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: rear suspension lower trailing arm – TOYOTA FJ CRUISER (GSJ1_). Take the following steps:
- Step 1Secure the wheels with chocks.Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #21. - Step 3Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.Replacement: rear suspension lower trailing arm – TOYOTA FJ CRUISER (GSJ1_). Tip:To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts. - Step 5
Remove the wheel. - Step 6
Clean all joints of the arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 7
Unscrew the arm fastening to the beam. Use a drive socket #19. Use a tap wrench. - Step 8
Unscrew the fastener connecting the trailing arm to the car body. Use a combination spanner #19. Use a drive socket #19. Use a tap wrench. - Step 9
Support the rear suspension beam. Use a hydraulic transmission jack. - Step 10
Clean the parking brake bracket. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 11
Unscrew the bolt and remove the parking brake cable bracket from the trailing arm. Use a drive socket #12. - Step 12
Remove the fastening bolts. - Step 13
Remove the arm. - Step 14
Install a new arm.Replacement: rear suspension lower trailing arm – TOYOTA FJ CRUISER (GSJ1_). Tip from AUTODOC experts:During the installation process, use only new bolts and nuts.Do not damage the ball joint cover. - Step 15
Install the control arm fasteners. Use a crowbar. - Step 16
Tighten the fastener connecting the trailing arm to the car body. Screw in the fastener connecting the control arm to the rear subframe. Use a combination spanner #19.
