How to change glow plugs on MERCEDES W124 [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]

Replacement: glow plugs – Mercedes W124. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
- The replacement procedure is identical for all glow plugs.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: glow plugs – Mercedes W124. Take the following steps:
- Step 1
Open the hood. - Step 2
Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car. - Step 3
Unscrew the fasteners of the inlet pipe bracket. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 4
Remove the fastening bolts. - Step 5
Unscrew the fasteners connecting the inlet pipe to the intake manifold. Use HEX No.H5. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 6
Remove the fastening bolts. - Step 7
Remove the inlet pipe. Use a crowbar. - Step 8
Cover the intake channels of the engine with a microfibre cloth to prevent dust and dirt from getting inside. - Step 9
Unscrew the engine cover fasteners. Use HEX No.H5. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 10
Remove the fastening bolts. - Step 11
Detach the accelerator rod from the throttle valve. - Step 12
Remove the engine cover. - Step 13
Unscrew the accelerator rod fastener. Use a combination spanner #10. Use a drive socket #8. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 14
Detach the accelerator cable retainer. - Step 15
Unscrew the accelerator bracket fasteners. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 16
Remove the fastening bolts. - Step 17
Move the accelerator mechanism aside. - Step 18
Detach the vacuum hoses from the intake manifold. - Step 19
Clean the intake manifold fasteners. Use all-purpose cleaning spray. - Step 20
Unscrew the intake manifold fasteners. Use Torx T45. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 21Remove the fastening bolts.Step 22
Unscrew the fasteners of the intake manifold bracket. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 23Remove the fastening bolts.Step 24
Remove the intake manifold. - Step 25
Cover the intake manifold passages with a microfibre towel to prevent dust and dirt from getting inside. - Step 26
Clean the intake manifold mounting seats. Use all-purpose cleaning spray. - Step 27
Detach the glow plug wiring connectors. Use needle nose pliers. - Step 28
Unscrew the fastener of the wiring harness bracket and move the harness aside. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 29Clean dirt, dust and debris from inside the spark plug wells. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.Step 30
Unscrew the glow plugs. Use the spark plug socket #12. Use a torque wrench.Replacement: glow plugs – Mercedes W124. AUTODOC recommends:The glow plugs can get stuck over time and break apart when removed.Use a torque wrench to loosen the parts to avoid exceeding the breakaway torque specified by the car manufacturer.If you have reached the breakaway torque but the glow plugs still won't unscrew, you need to consult a professional: breakage of the parts can result in costly engine repairs. - Step 31
Remove the glow plugs. - Step 32
Treat the glow plugs. Use high-temperature ceramic grease. - Step 33
Install new glow plugs to their mounting seats. - Step 34
Tighten the glow plugs. Use the spark plug socket #12. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 20 Nm torque.AUTODOC recommends:Don't use excessive force when tightening the spark plugs. Overtightening can damage the threaded connection. - Step 35
Treat the glow plug connectors. Use dielectric grease. - Step 36
Install the wiring harness bracket and screw in the fastener. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 37
Attach the glow plug wiring connectors.
