How to change glow plugs on MERCEDES W124 [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]
All the parts you need to replace – Glow Plugs for E-Class Saloon (W124) and other MERCEDES-BENZ models
The glow plugs can get stuck over time and break apart when removed.Use a torque wrench to loosen the parts to avoid exceeding the breakaway torque specified by the car manufacturer.If you have reached the breakaway torque but the glow plugs still won't unscrew, you need to consult a professional: breakage of the parts can result in costly engine repairs.

Remove the glow plugs.
Step 32
Treat the glow plugs. Use high-temperature ceramic grease.
Step 33
Install new glow plugs to their mounting seats.
Step 34
Tighten the glow plugs. Use the spark plug socket #12. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 20 Nm torque.
AUTODOC recommends:
Don't use excessive force when tightening the spark plugs. Overtightening can damage the threaded connection.
Step 35
Treat the glow plug connectors. Use dielectric grease.
Step 36
Install the wiring harness bracket and screw in the fastener. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 37
Attach the glow plug wiring connectors.
Step 38
Remove the microfibre cloth from the engine intake channels.
Step 39
Install the intake manifold.
Step 40
Install the fastening bolts.
Step 41
Tighten the intake manifold fasteners. Use Torx T45. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 20 Nm torque.
Step 42
Tighten the fasteners of the intake manifold bracket. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 43
Attach the vacuum hoses to the intake manifold.
Step 44
Install the accelerator mechanism.
Step 45
Install the fastening bolts.
Step 46
Screw in the accelerator bracket fasteners. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 47
Screw in the accelerator rod fastener. Use a combination spanner #10. Use a combination spanner #8.
Step 48
Install the accelerator cable retainer.
Step 49
Install the engine cover and secure it.
Step 50
Install the fastening bolts.
Step 51
Screw in the engine cover fasteners. Use HEX No.H5. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 52
Attach the accelerator rod to the throttle valve.
Step 53
Remove the microfibre cloth from the engine intake channels.
Step 54
Attach the inlet pipe.
Step 55
Install the fastening bolts.
Step 56
Screw in the fasteners connecting the inlet pipe to the intake manifold. Use HEX No.H5. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 57
Install the fastening bolts.
Step 58
Screw in the fasteners of the inlet pipe bracket. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 59
Run the engine for a few minutes. This is necessary in order to make sure that the component operates properly.
Step 60
Shut off the engine.
Step 61
Remove the fender protection cover.
Step 62
Close the hood.
