Replacement: glow plugs – MERCEDES-BENZ C-CLASS (W203). Tip from AUTODOC:
- The replacement procedure is identical for all glow plugs.
- Wear gloves to protect your hands from hot surfaces.
- Warning! Shut down the engine before starting any work – MERCEDES-BENZ C-CLASS (W203).
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Open the bonnet.Step 2Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.Step 3
Clean dirt, dust and debris from inside the spark plug wells. - Step 4
Treat the glow plugs. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 5
If the glow plugs are difficult to unscrew, start the engine and let it warm up to operating temperature. This will make them easier to remove.Replacement: glow plugs – MERCEDES-BENZ C-CLASS (W203). Tip:Wear gloves to protect your hands from hot surfaces. - Step 6Shut off the engine.Step 7
Unscrew the fuel hose fastener. Use a drive socket #Е11. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 8
Disconnect the fuel return line hose. - Step 9
Blank off the fuel return line. - Step 10
Detach the glow plug wiring connectors. Use needle nose pliers. - Step 11
Clean dirt, dust and debris from inside the spark plug wells. - Step 12
Unscrew the glow plugs. Use the spark plug socket #10. Use a torque wrench.Replacement: glow plugs – MERCEDES-BENZ C-CLASS (W203). AUTODOC recommends:The glow plugs can get stuck over time and break apart when removed.Use a torque wrench to loosen the parts to avoid exceeding the breakaway torque specified by the car manufacturer.If you have reached the breakaway torque but the glow plugs still won't unscrew, you need to consult a professional: breakage of the parts can result in costly engine repairs. - Step 13
Remove the glow plugs. Use needle nose pliers. - Step 14
Treat the glow plugs. Use high-temperature ceramic grease. - Step 15
Install new glow plugs to their mounting seats. Use needle nose pliers.
