How to change glow plugs on MERCEDES ML W163 [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]

High-temperature ceramic grease

Spark plug socket # 10
Drive socket # Е11
Ratchet wrench

Replacement: glow plugs – Mercedes ML W163. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
- The replacement procedure is identical for all glow plugs.
- Wear gloves to protect your hands from hot surfaces.
- Please note: all work on the car – Mercedes ML W163 – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Open the bonnet.
- Step 2Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.
- Step 3Clean dirt, dust and debris from inside the spark plug wells.
- Step 4Treat the glow plugs. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 5Before getting down to work, start the engine and let it warm up to operating temperature.
- Step 6Shut off the engine.Step 7Clean the fuel return line. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
- Step 8Disconnect the fuel return line hose. Use a flat screwdriver.
- Step 9Blank off the fuel return line.
- Step 10Unscrew the engine vacuum pipe fastener. Use a drive socket #Е11. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 11Detach the glow plug wiring connectors. Use needle nose pliers.
- Step 12Clean dirt, dust and debris from inside the spark plug wells.
- Step 13Unscrew the glow plugs. Use the spark plug socket #10. Use a torque wrench.
- Step 14Remove the glow plugs. Use the spark plug socket #10. Use needle nose pliers.
- Step 15Treat the glow plugs. Use high-temperature ceramic grease.Please note!Do not touch the heating element as fingerprints may cause malfunction.
