Replacement: wheel bearing – Opel Meriva X03. AUTODOC recommends:
- Do not re-use the bearing assembly of your Opel Meriva X03 car.
- The wheel hub bearing replacement procedure is identical for both wheels on the same axle.
- Please note: all work on the car – Opel Meriva X03 – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Secure the wheels with chocks.Step 2Remove the cotter pin. Use a crowbar.
- Step 3Loosen the fastener of the driveshaft. Use a drive socket #30. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 4Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
- Step 5Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
- Step 6Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Opel Meriva X03
- Step 7Remove the wheel.
- Step 8Treat the ABS sensor connector. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
- Step 9Detach the ABS sensor connector.
- Step 10Disconnect the ABS sensor wiring.
- Step 11Spread the brake pads. Use a crowbar.
- Step 12Clean the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 13Unscrew the caliper bracket fastening. Use a drive socket #Е20. Use a ratchet wrench. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 14Remove the brake caliper together with its bracket.Replacement: wheel bearing – Opel Meriva X03. AUTODOC experts recommend:Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur. Check the brake caliper bracket, brake caliper guide pins and boots. Clean them. Replace, if necessary.
- Step 15Clean the fastener connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 16Unscrew the end fastening nut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 17Disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller.
- Step 18Clean the brake disc fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 19Unscrew the brake disc fastening. Use Torx T30. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 20Remove the brake disc.
- Step 21Clean the fasteners connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 22Unscrew the fasteners connecting the suspension strut to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 23Remove the fastening bolt.
- Step 24Unscrew the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 25Remove the fastening bolt.
- Step 26Disconnect the lower arm from the steering knuckle.
- Step 27Unscrew the fastener connecting the drive shaft to the wheel hub.
- Step 28Detach the driveshaft from the steering knuckle.
- Step 29Remove the fastening bolt.
- Step 30Remove the steering knuckle together with the hub.Step 31Clean the fasteners of the brake disc cover. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 32Unscrew the fasteners of the brake disc cover. Use Torx T30.
- Step 33Remove the brake disc cover.
- Step 34Remove the wheel hub from the steering knuckle. Use a bush and bearing driver set.
- Step 35Clean the fasteners of the wheel hub bearing. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 36Remove the wheel hub bearing retaining ring. Use a pin punch. Use a hammer. Use a crowbar.
- Step 37Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 38Press out the wheel hub bearing. Use a bush and bearing driver set.
- Step 39Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 40Press the new bearing in the steering knuckle. Use a bush and bearing driver set.Replacement: wheel bearing – Opel Meriva X03. Tip from AUTODOC experts:Check to make sure the wheel hub bearing is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment. Stop pressing on the surface of the bearing immediately after it has been fitted into its mounting seat.
- Step 41Install the wheel hub bearing retaining ring. Use circlip pliers.
- Step 42Clean the hub. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 43Pull the bearing inner race out of the wheel hub. Use a bearing separator. Use a bush and bearing driver set.Step 44Clean the hub. Use WD-40 spray.Step 45Install the wheel hub on the steering knuckle. Use a bush and bearing driver set.Replacement: wheel bearing – Opel Meriva X03. AUTODOC recommends:Make sure that the wheel hub is positioned correctly. Avoid any misalignment.
- Step 46Clean the splines of the drive shaft CV joint. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 47Treat the shock strut mounting seat on the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 48Install the steering knuckle assembled with the wheel hub.
